Hiizumi Enjin ♋ 3/?? derpchan April 18 2010, 16:25:54 UTC
[ History cont'd ] :
You see, the Hiizumi family has existed for many generations. They, themselves, are known as 'tuners', and should also not technically exist in the human world. But they do, and are normal humans, even, except for the ability to send those who migrate from the yōkai world back there. Yes, yōkai can be in 'our' world (let's just call it side A, as they are fundamentally the same except for the inhabitants, who cannot see the people on the other planes--like ghosts, almost. That is to say, side A cannot see side B. It's like a coin), but they do not belong in it. This is where the Hiizumi family comes in... you see, they originally alone have the ability to sever all connections with the yōkai world and ours in a single yōkai, sending it back permanently, for good or ill. No one knows what the 'other' world is like.

The story you will hear about how the two worlds ended up connected... is unknown, as of the current chapters. What IS known is how many from the human world ended up in the yōkai side and what happened to have Enjin as he is now. But regarding that, what Hiizumi Akina was originally told... was not entirely accurate. Oh, some of it is: the part about one of the first Hiizumis to be tuned into the other world to see what was there... well, sort of. The Hiizumis had a branch family; as nobility of sorts. But the tuning there... it was not to their will. Enyou and his clan were tuned as human sacrifices to the other side... by his own family. As Akina would later find out, what can be said about the dimensions beginning to warp together is that the Nana-gou, the original landmarks of Sakurashin-machi, large trees existing in both realms and thought to be Enyou's blessing... were anything but.

You see, the sakura trees (known as the Seven Pillars) around Sakurashin-machi protect it with a barrier, keeping the town not only peaceful, but safe for both demons AND yōkai. However, they are not, as revealed, sacred relics that exist solely so that the Hiizumi line, like Akina, can tune others. Not at all. In fact, the truth is that Enyou sent the Seven Pillars as linchpins of his hate, despair, and resentment to fuse the two dimensions... which is ultimately also the goal of his descendant, Hiizumi Enjin. He wishes for the dimensions to fuse, and will do anything to work toward this goal. He even goes so far as to (later in the manga) find the best A and S-class Yōkai Hunters, band them together, and get them to go after those in Sakurashin-machi. It benefits them mutually: Enjin will get the dimensions fused (for whatever reason he may want it, as this has yet to be revealed; Enjin is enigmatic at best...), and once the worlds of the yōkai and humans are together with the other race everywhere, the hunters will have many more yōkai to prey upon.
