So after Paris we arrived at Girona in Spain...and then we took a bus to Barcelona city center. Then we took the metro to our hostel. The hostel is pretty nice, very clean and the only drawback is sometimes it is kind of loud. But other than that I have been satisfied. Anyways, back to barcelona travel.
When we got to the Hostel we stayed with two friends of Anita...so that means that we have our own room basically which is great. After getting situated we went to walk around the city. It is funny because Barcelona was really rainy and we had just left sunny Paris (Paris is usually rainy and Barcelona sunny...lol). We got some tapas and then walked around. I got to see the Casa Battlo which is a really fantastical house by Gaudi. Then we walked along Las Ramblas (this market-esque place) and met up with a girl that lives in Barcelona that is friends with someone in our group. We went out to eat. It is funny because we have been using the Spanish eating schedule. A light breakfast, then lunch around 230...snacks in between...and dinner at 10 or 11pm!
The next day we went to the Parc Guell which is a mountain with alot of work by Gaudi. Great views up there and alotta cool buildings like Casa Battlo.
One of my favorites to eat in Europe (and since it was Good Friday which meant no meat) is falafel wraps. THEY ARE DELICIOUS and I hope they become more popular in the USA. Had one for lunch.
Then we went back to the hostel for a bit.
That evening was really cool because we got to watch a procession, by chance, for Good Friday. It was in a square full of people and there were statues of Jesus and the Virgin Mary and all these people in black hoods (that are similar to KKK attire, but an entirely different meaning). There was also a lady that sang these really intense catalan (the language of the city and the region, like a mixture of french and spanish) religious songs and marching bands.
It was soooooo great to see it and we followed it to the cathedral. Eventually we finished that and went back to the hostel and made dinner. We had Lentils and Chorizo (spanish sausage since it was almost midnight :)) and it was delicious.
It was great to be part of something really unique to spanish culture like that procession and being Roman Catholic made it so cool to see.
Anyways, I´ll write more soon. Adios!
