Fruit!

I just wanted to share the fact that I paid ~3 US$ for a peach today. 1 peach. Uno, ein, nuang. I have been dreaming of peaches. Yes, I live in the land of exotic fruit. I have eaten rambutan, pomelo, snakefruit, jackfruit, sonelo, longan, papaya, mangos, mangosteens, etc. But it is July and my brain has wandered back in time to my summers in Georgia as a kid. With delicious, juicy, Georgia peaches. Mmmm. So today I was in the Villa market to buy some cereal and cat litter and I wandered into the fruit section. There they were, peaches, yellow, normal and ivory, imported from the US. Rock hard of course, but I am sure the heat and humidity in my kitchen will soon take care of that. 550 baht/100 gram. I picked one. I passed on the 10$ 1/2 pint of blackberries, but only because they did not look good. In case you have not guessed, import taxes on some things make them very expensive. I hope this works out better than the last time I indulged in food nostalgia. That was the 6$ NZ avocado. That had a fungus infecting the pit. Sigh. While I wait for the peach to ripen, I will skip off to buy a 25 cent bag of juicy yellow watermelon with prik gap kluay dip(sugar/salt/chili)from my favorite street vendor.

For unknown reasons, I have attached a picture from the Man Mo Temple in Hong Kong. Enjoy!
