I mean I did do other things, I take breaks, but... just to do stuff like eat or whatever... I'm stressed out over the doctor thing still so getting completely absorbed in something ( Read more... )

-I love the entire love letter part. It’s legitimately funny, and Beatrix/Steiner is amazing. Actually, that whole segment of the game is awesome. The attack on Alexandria which follows is also a really exciting element.

-I never minded Dagger’s mute status later in the game. I usually shelved her when possible since she was more unreliable, but I thought it was a neat bit of story/gameplay integration. Considering how much she’s been through, I think her mental state makes a lot of sense.

-And yes, Amarant is awesome. He’s great in combat, but also a really cool, more subtle character than Steiner/Vivi/etc. He’s one of my favorites.

It's like an entire game of Zodiac Spears.

There was an article I read a year or two ago (on Kotaku, I think) about a sidequest with the Benerio brother peeps that had gone unnoticed in most FAQs for years, because it’s so minor and random.

-Let me join you in <3<3<3 for human Cid. Mmmm ( ... )

Yeah, the love letter part is one of the most memorable scenes in the game somehow :) I say somehow not because there's anything wrong with it, but because I feel this entire game is so memorable and fantastic, that it's weird that this one scene tends to particularly stand out.

I definitely appreciate Dagger's mute time from a writing perspective but I WANNA USE HER A LOT AND MAKER HER THE BIG STRONG ALL THE TIME.

It took me a long time to come around to Amarant. I think when I first played this game, I didn't appreciate certain kinds of characters very well, and that kinda stuck for a while. Certain characters didn't stick well with me and I tended to only like characters who were good and pure like Sailor Moon lmfao. I even hated Eiko and had difficulty enjoying Freya my first time through. IDK why I was like that back then, but I pretty quickly warmed up to Freya and now I just absolutely love every character in this game, even the most minor ones (er, maybe not Fratley LOL) because of how well everyone is written. It's ( ... )

I agree. The game has a plethora of memorable moments, to an almost ridiculous degree, but the love letter sequence always sticks out to me somehow.

I'm glad Amarant grew on you! He was initially my favorite character, and while he's not my top favorite anymore, he's still among the top. I remember when I first got into the fandom, and a lot of the fanbase carried a lot of hate for him. Now I wonder if it was mostly younger fans who didn't see the more subtle character arc, and just thought he was a big jerk. Hm.

Who is your favorite now? It's probably pretty obvious mine is Dagger :P Though I love every character in this game. Maybe not Zorn and Thorn hahaha. JK I love them but they are annoying little twerps... but they're supposed to be, so it's fine :)

And yeah, even though I was like 15-16 when I was playing this game the firs time, I still couldn't see him as anything but an asshole. Because I kinda hated him from the start, I didn't pay him much mind and kinda missed out on his development. But now I think he's a really great and interesting character and love him a lot.

My favorite character is probably Kuja. Great design, awesome dialogue, incredible theme(s), climatic boss battles, sympathetic, yet threatening...he's great. Still gets my vote for best FF villain.

Amarant, Vivi and Dagger are neck-in-neck for the second spot. With everyone else fighting for third. Well, except Fratley. So basically:

1. Kuja
2. Amarant/Vivi/Dagger
3. Almost everyone else of importance
4.NPCs of no importance
5.Fratley

Ah yeah I really love Kuja too! I didn't really talk about him much this play though. But he is my favorite villain in the series, too.

I love how even like... The person who throws a tantrum about the no vacancies in Alexandria is better than Fratley, but then thinking about it... They really are LOL they at least contribute to the setting/atmosphere, and are realistic and written well for what they do say.

I get what you're saying about Zidane/You're Not Alone part. That actually makes a lot of sense. He doesn't really have a reason to start doubting anyone/feeling different before that point either. A little foreshadowing would have been cool, but you're right, it does seem in his character to be like that. I'm like that with certain things (though I'm certainly no Zidane overall haha) so I get how that is ( ... )

I definitely won't argue that Necron is completely weird. Within the context of the ending, and what Memoria is, I don't think a personification of nothingness appearing is completely batshit, but it is still... odd.

WHEW. I totally thought the status effect thing was, like, all of them on one character at the same time. What you said is muuuucccchhhh better.

Yeah, I actually think Necron is pretty cool and interesting as a way to end the game, I wish they just didn't make him feel so out-of-left-field, I guess ( ... )
