Title: 1 birthday, 5 different ways (or, Happy Birthday, Ryeowook!)
Pairings: Various (all involving Ryeowook because it's his birthday after all)
Rating: G
A/N: This is a collab with
2pmconspiracy . See if you can guess which are written by her and which are by me. It’s obvious, the better ones are written by her.

“Wake up, Wook.”
Ryeowook’s eyes fluttered open slowly as he threw his hyung a sleepy smile. Donghae was bouncing lightly on his bed, tugging at his hand. Sometimes, he seemed more like the maknae than Kyuhyun.
He sat up slowly in his bed, rubbing his eyes lightly, before he was pulled into a bone-crashing hug. “Happy birthday, Wook! Yay I’m the first person to wish youuuuu~!”
Ryeowook laughed lightly, knowing that he should have guessed for there to be a reason for his hyung to wake him up so early in the day. “Thanks hyung!”
Donghae pushed him to the bathroom and made him wash-up, before dragging him eagerly down to the dining table. Suddenly, he paused in his steps and turned to Ryeowook, with a serious expression, which he seldom used.
“Promise me you won’t laugh at my gift. I mean, I was so busy with the fourth album promotions and everything that I… I didn’t have time to shop. But I mean, I put in an equal amount of effort into making this! It’s nowhere as good as anything you would make… but still it’s my -“
The younger laughed joyously, too high with his birthday mood to listen to his hyung ramble on continuously, which he knew Donghae would if he didn’t stop him. “It’s alright, hyung. I understand and I’d love it as long as it’s from you.”
The elder scratched his head awkwardly before sitting him down at the dining table and heading to the kitchen. Wait, he made me breakfast? Oh no, that means I’ll have to clean up the kitchen and and… gosh, why did he attempt that!
Ryeowook began an internal panic, and he jumped slightly when a porcelain plate was placed in front of him. Pancakes. They were golden brown and not charred in any way. The younger turned and glanced up at his hyung, who was looking at him nervously. “It’s nothing much since I can’t cook half as well as you… but I cleaned up the kitchen and everything, so don’t worry!”
He smiled and took a bite into the pancakes. Somehow, they tasted a lot better than anything he’d find outside and Ryeowook knew why. It was because Donghae had probably put in a lot of effort into making them, along with love. That was all he wanted on his birthday.
He didn’t want material things, or anything expensive. All Ryeowook wanted were gifts filled with sincerity from his members. And Donghae had given him just that.
“Thanks hyung!” He beamed happily, trying to stop the tears of joy from flowing, by squeezing Donghae in a tight hug. Somehow, he knew this was just the beginning of a fantabulous day.

“Happy birthday, Wookie!” Ryeowook turned around from his pancakes (and they tasted fabulous, mind you; Ryeowook never knew that Donghae had that inner chef in him) and saw their leader calling him from behind.
“Hey hyung! Look what Donghae -” Made for me and he didn’t destroy the kitchen, Ryeowook wanted to say, but was quickly interrupted by Leeteuk.
“So Wookie, I spent the whole of yesterday thinking about what to get for you. But I was so busy that I forgot to buy it and so, when we got back to the dorms, I started panicking and jumping about in my room, trying to think of something that I can make for you. And I thought of something perfect but I realized that I didn’t have the materials, and so I started panicking and jumping about in my room again. I spent the entire night thinking about what I should do and I didn’t sleep at all. Look at my eyebags!” Leeteuk pointed at the area under his eyes and wanted Ryeowook to see how much his poor leader suffered because of him. But Ryeowook was too busy trying to process what Leeteuk just said - which is really a lot in a short period of time -and so, couldn’t look at him. Donghae, however, was staring in awe at Leeteuk’s eyebags, simply because he didn’t have to process what Leeteuk just said - he completely ignored it.
A whole minute later, after receiving a few angry glares from Leeteuk because Ryeowook didn’t care about him and a few more from Donghae because he was impatient, Ryeowook finally exclaimed, “Oh, hyung, I get it! I’m sorry for making you lose sleep, hyung. It’s okay, you don’t have to get me anything.”
Leeteuk smiled and suddenly, he wasn’t angry anymore. (Old people get more mood swings, Ryeowook thought.) “Anyway, Ryeowook, after waking up this morning and hitting my head on a shelf and - oh look! Now I got a bump on my head as well. Okay, what I really wanted to tell you is that I finally thought of the perfect thing to get you.”
“Really, hyung? What is it?” Ryeowook asked excitedly. (“Yes, what is it?” Donghae asked and he was clearly more excited than the birthday boy himself because he was already jumping in his seat.)
“I would use my leader voice to demand the boys to do things that you want them to. Anything, Wookie, anything you like.” Leeteuk replied, proud of his brilliant idea.
(Later that day, Leeteuk used his leader voice to demand the boys to do anything Ryeowook wants.
“There is no way you are making me do what you want, hyung.” Heechul said and walked off. Leeteuk looked at Ryeowook, embarrassed, and the birthday boy just smiled. Guess this was a Bad Idea after all.)

They were in a café on a beautiful hill, (allowed for a break simply because it was Ryeowook's birthday). As the rest of the boys chattered among themselves, the birthday boy managed to sneak away. He went to the other side of the café and found a comfortable spot overlooking the city (it shows that they were still quite near to the city). There, he watched flowers bloom; watched butterflies flutter; watched as life went on. And suddenly, he felt arms slipping around his waist. The scent was familiar - somewhat pink.
"Sungmin?" He whispered, not looking back but at the surrounding beauty of nature, because it will just ruin the surprise. "What's up, hyung?"
"Nothing," he replied and laid a soft kiss on Ryeowook's cheeks. "Can't I wish my Ryeowook a happy birthday?" (He said my. Possessive term.)
"Thank you," Ryeowook replied and laid back into Sungmin's arms, warm and comforting. (It was these little things really made him love.)
The pair stayed in that position for a while and it was then that Ryeowook could truly say that he enjoyed. It wasn't anything grand - no cake, no cards, and no presents. But somehow, it felt like it was enough to make him happy, to freeze everything in right place, to make everything seem perfect.
(That moment, everything was perfect. Because, to Ryeowook, love is.)

It was evening when Yesung had grabbed his wrist, without a word, and started dragging him towards his practice room, containing a keyboard.
Ryeowook plopped down on the piano chair, squishing his hyung slightly, knowing that the elder would not mind. Yesung cast him a side smile and turned to him sincerely, “I really want to know your opinion on this new song that I’ve been working on, alright?”
The younger nodded happily. Yesung had always gone to him for advice and feedback on his newest creations. He had always been more than happy to try and help him understand.
“You are the only one I need
It rids the reason for everything else
I am fine with everything else as long as you are beside me
Even if the season or the world changes
I will always and will love you
Cause You Are My Destiny”
The older man’s voice filled the practice room, as Ryeowook closed his eyes and enjoyed the sound of his voice, as well as the music produced. He loved listening to Yesung sing, his voice always seemed to have a calming effect on all present, especially Ryeowook.
His eyes fluttered open as he realized that the song was over and his hyung was now staring at him expectedly. “Wow hyung, that was just amazing.”
A look of genuine surprise filled Yesung’s face as he stammered, “Rea… really? I mean, you like it?”
Ryeowook blinked, shocked to see the uncertainty that was tainting the elder’s face and the nervousness colouring his voice. “Well yeah, I mean I don’t like it, hyung. I love it.”
Relief flashed across the elder’s face as he sighed, smiling slightly, “That’s a relief. It would be a pity if you didn’t like your own birthday present.”
This time, it was the younger’s turn to be surprised, a deep blush colouring his faint pink cheeks, “Really? I mean, you wrote this for me, hyung?”
Yesung nodded slowly, clearly slightly embarrassed by his own actions. Ryeowook responded to this by giving him a tight squeeze, to which the elder almost choked. “Thank you hyung. I really appreciate and love it.”
The elder smiled and returned the hug mumbling into his hair, “I’m glad you enjoyed it, Wook. Happy birthday.”

It’s 11.56PM on 21st June 2010 and Ryeowook is still awake, waiting. He looks over at Donghae, who said that he would accompany Ryeowook, but has obviously fallen asleep on their giant couch, hands tucked under his head. Ryeowook didn’t blame him because he was the first to wake up to wish him a happy birthday. Plus, Ryeowook feels the same way, like he is falling asleep soon as well. No, Ryeowook told himself, what if he returns and I can’t greet him because I’m asleep?
It’s 11.57PM and still no sign of the said boy. Henry said that he would be back to celebrate Ryeowook’s birthday with him. He promised. Ryeowook hasn’t seen him in a long while and he misses him dearly. Ryeowook isn’t the hyung to many people and he’s glad that he has someone younger - and also as adorable - to take care of.
It’s 11.58PM and in his heart, Ryeowook believes that Henry wouldn’t make it in time. He wouldn’t blame him as well, because Canada is a very far away and how can he expect Henry to come over immediately? He tries to explain it to himself and that it is not because Henry forgot about his birthday. What if? No, Henry will never forget about his birthday, he’ll never forget about Ryeowook.
It’s 11.59PM and Ryeowook decided that he’ll go to bed. (He wanted to carry Donghae but couldn’t, so he figured that Donghae wouldn’t mind sleeping on the couch.) He stood up and walked towards his room, but the doorbell rang. Ryeowook has almost given up hope that it could be Henry, but walked towards the door anyway. He opens it and sees Henry, still in his coat and scarf.
“Um, happy birthday, hyung,” Henry says while holding out a cake stumbling on his Korean a little. He pauses and thinks hard, (Ryeowook could see traces of flour on his face), and then proceeds to repeat what he said earlier in Chinese, “生日快乐!” And Ryeowook smiles.
(The clock strikes 12. Henry wasn’t late after all.)
And so, this was how five boys celebrated Ryeowook’s birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RYEOWOOK! 祝您生日快乐! 생일축하합니다!
