Well, I found a Zimmerstutzen. Here's a couple photos:
This fires a 4mm lead ball using a CB cap. That, basically, is a primer-only cartridge. Here's a picture comparing the size of one to a .22LR cartridge:
Dinky, but a lot of fun to shoot. The action of this one is all at the front, with a swing-out loading gate.
Here is a bunch of pictures of a sister to my new rifle, showing a lot more of it. The trigger part merely as a cocking mechanism, with a really LOOOOOONG firing pin up to the front.
Mine is missing the front sight insert, and will require a gunsmith to make me a new one, but the wood on it is in about the best shape I've seen, and the color case hardening also looks to be in great shape. The engraving on the stock isn't the most beautiful I've seen, but I'm after a shooter first and foremost, and if the exterior is in this good a shape, I'm hoping the barrel is in primo condition.
The odd bulbous thing on the buttstock is called an "acorn". Unscrewing it reveals the cleaning rod underneath, and the one is present here.
The targets for this are shot at 15m, and are about 85mm across, with a 4mm bulls-eye. They are shot exclusively off-hand, which is why the stock has such a serious downward sweep to it and the face-cupping cheek piece.
It's an oddball sport, but there's a championship each year at the BPCR nationals in Raton, as you can likely tell from my last post...
It's gonna be a HOOT!
