As a little intro, I'm Huw and FtM. I live in Sheffield, and go to University there.
I had my first appointment at Charing Cross a couple of weeks ago, and one of the main things I got told was that I had to have changed my name by the time of my second appointment (I saw Dr Green). I was relieved that I would be able to do it so soon, because while everyone I know calls me Huw, I still have to see the wrong name every time I get a card out my wallet, and that just doesn't do good things to me.
I've been mainly going off the FTM Network website, and printed out a Statutory Declaration using their online name changer, but I'm having trouble getting anyone to notarise it (I've been looking for solicitors mainly). The only quote I could get was for about £70, and I'm a student so that's completely out of the question.
How did any of you do it? And would I have to tell them up front for my reason, or do they just not bother to ask? Also, Dr Green told me that I would just be able to tick off Male/Mr when I change the records of my name for any banks etc, but that just seems like it's too easy to be true. Is it?
I'm getting really frustrated here.
