DIY Phone Jack

So ddmerillat and I stopped at a big box hardware store and picked up a fifty-foot phone cord without plugs. We also got a small box thingy to convert the bare wires into a phone jack. Way too much effort later, the TiVo can now phone home whenever it wants. No more unplugging the kitchen phone and running a long wire across the living room and kitchen floors. Whee!

So the parts were $10, but it took us quite a while to do the installation. The individual wires weren't single-strand copper, so they were much harder to work with at both ends. If I ever add any more phone jacks anywhere, I think I'll replace the whole basement part with something larger.
