Yesterday was a lovely day in the city! The weather was delightful,
in the 80s, blue skies and big, fluffy clouds.
We spent a good portion of the day in Central Park. It's a great place
to spend a Saturday afternoon as there are SO MANY THINGS you
can do! We strapped on our skates and head out to explore. Wearing
skates is an awesome mix between walking and driving. You are
more mobile than if you were just walking, so have the opportunity
to cover more ground in a shorter time and see more things. It's
better than driving a car because you can spend time looking at
your surroundings and hop off and change paths at a moment's notice.
Cars aren't allowed in the park on Saturdays, anyway.
Even with the extra time skating allowed, we only managed to see
the bottom half of the park in the three hours we were out there.
Some of the things we enjoyed were the Egyptian oblique, the Belvedere
Castle, Shakespeare's Gardens and just the expanse of the park!
It's a great place to people watch, as there are just so many people.
After the park, we met up with my mom's cousin Sara. We were chatting
at our family reunion last weekend, and it came up that we were both
going to be in NYC at the same time. Oddly enough, we're staying
just doors down from Sara, so that was a pleasant surprise. We met
with Jessica, Renee and Adam for a lovely night out. We went to a great
place called the Boat Basin Cafe, where we enjoyed buckets of beer
and I had one of the best caesar salads!
After the cafe, we went back to Renee's neighborhood to have a drink.
We went to a place with a little sign that read, Proof of Age Required,
25 years old. It was then that I cringed just a little, as I was the only
one at the table that met the requirement! Both Adam and Aleks are
close, and Renee is just a year off, but technically, well, I was the
only one over 25, le sigh... We had a nice time chatting with Adam
and Renee, and catching up on fun stories in each other's lives.
However, the sleepies were getting to me, so we called it a night.
We did stop for a slice of pizza at Famous Joe's pizza on our way
to the subway. I think I preferred the pizza from the Alligator lounge
better, but things were more wobbly, and I really liked the concept.
Today will be another day in the city, as we explore neighborhoods.
My goal today is to find things to take photos of!
