[TFA Optimus Prime]
open thread ♥

*Apparently, the Nexus didn't have an awful lot of bad weather. Today was another day when the sun was out and shining bright as Earth's own yellow sun. And for beings from a world without its own sun, having a constant source of natural light was impressive. Cybertron didn't have its own sun - instead, it simply floating throughout space, wandering through solar systems and galaxies with no direction in mind. Somehow, the planet defied the laws of gravity. The yellow photons from this sun were as pleasant on his plating as the Earth's sun had been. Strange, that after naming their entire solar system, the humans had simply given their star the name "sun."

His optics offline, Optimus leaned against the wall of the Autobot medbay, his processors drifting towards one of the older legends of Cybertron. That, originally, the planet did have its own solar system - in the center were two stars that rotated around each other and kept the solar system in its rather erratic but constant pace. They were called the Maker and Unmaker respectfully - Primus and Unicron. Perhaps not very creative, but it represented a balance in the universe and a balance on Cybertron. The ancient Cybertronians had had their own superstition of the stars colliding because of an unbalance on their planet, and had done everything to keep that from happening.

Of course, science would prove that it was inevitable.

A few hundred million stellar-cycles (or perhaps more - there had never been a record of the two stars existing in the first place) into the solar system's life, the stars did collide. The resulting catastrophe destroyed many of the system's planets, and sent many others, including Cybertron, to the far corners of the universe. There were probably a handful of other planets doing the same thing Cybertron did. Drifting through space, passing through a dark sector and then a light sector, making dark and light vorns. The catastrophe made Cybertronians adapt, and instead of "stellar cycle," the largest commonly used unit of time had become "vorn." It was hard to use "stellar cycle" appropriately on a planet with no solar system.

Vorn was exclusively Cybertronian - but stellar cycle was more appropriate for the rest of the universe.

Catastrophes sometimes were terrible. The Great Wars had been an epic catastrophe, the loss of the AllSpark, hundreds of guarded protoforms being stolen. It made the simple, every day problems in a life seem tiny in comparison. Even what landed him a team of mismatched repair bots paled in comparison to a single battle that wiped out hundreds of thousands of Cybertronians. And the one mech that had to carry the single blame for a simple error.

But just like the legendary twin stars of ancient Cybertron, there was a balance, and for every bad thing that happened, there was always something good that happened. After all, since coming to this place, Optimus had seen a bonding ceremony - an actual bonding ceremony. Just the thought made him smile slightly. This place might not be a perfect place, but it did hold a sort of balance for them.*
