The First Win (April Challenge 2010)

IDW Blurr

*He wanders through the trees outside the Shack, listening to the soft sounds of birds and the breeze rustling the leaves, and thinking about the message flashing on his HUD.*

I remember the very first race I won.

Well, I remember them all, but that first one really stands out.

*Finding a clearing he wades carefully through the organic flowers and lays down in the middle, letting the sunlight soak into his plating.*

I was still considered a rookie racer, but I’d been training hard. My manager had this pep talk he gave me. Well, more like a reminder speech.

He said how I was built for this. How my very spark was meant for a racer’s frame. How I had the best of the best inside me. Parts and spark and processors. I was the perfect design, a creation of pure speed.

I was meant to win.

It was time.

*He sighs softly in remembrance, and shutters his optics, a slight smile tugging his lips up.*

I don’t know if it was the, ‘It’s time. This race. This is the first one in a long line of races you’ll win, Blurr’, or just… luck on top of my natural talent, but I won.

*His optics open, staring up at the bright blue sky, but not seeing it. Instead the vivid memories play, replacing the drifting wisps of cloud with Cybertron’s endless night.*

I’ll never forget the lights. They were so bright, brighter than usual. And the crowd seemed louder too. Everything is just so crisp in my memory banks. I can feel the jolt of impact in my legs even now. The rapid thud-thud-thud of my feet hitting the ground, rocketing me forward. The rush of the wind, wind I was creating! The lightning swift transformation to my alt mode, the way the track flew by under me, then another transformation back for the final leg. There’s this split instant when no matter how many times you do it, you’re never sure if your feet will get back under you in time until they hit the track, and you don’t crash.

*Another wistful sigh.*

I can still hear the sounds of the other racers’ respiration, loud and panting behind me. I wanted to look back so bad! But that’s the worst thing you can do in a race. You keep your optics forward, you watch for that little beam of light, and you get to it first!

And I did.

I was breaking the through the laser that marked the finish line, and it hit me.

I’d won! I’d really won!

And the crowd was just screaming, and the other racers were crossing the finish line, and some were really happy for me, and others were pretty torqued they got beat by the new kid, but I didn’t care. I’d won!

I love every win. I was made for it. Made to come in first and take the prize and be adored by everyone from the lowest gutter mech to the richest Towers’ darling.

But it’s that first one that really holds a place in my spark. It’s that one that showed me what I was sparked for, and gave me the drive to win every last race I entered after that.

I was made to win.

(ooc- MOD’s this is my second char and therefore second entry for the challenge. If that’s against the rules, that’s fine, I prefer G1 Sideswipe’s memory for my official entry since the muse really snagged me for that one. Regardless, I wanted to give Blurr a chance to talk some more, even if I did have to poke and prod him til the last minute to give me the whopping 548 words he finally did. Thanks! ^-^ -LD)
