When Megatron hit Starscream with the key, the key didn't kill him, it just fulfilled one of Megatron's long buried fantasies/wishes instead.
1) Silly: Megatron has hated that magenta color for a LONG time. It's like Starscream picked it on purpose just to annoy him. He's secretly wished it was something else. Gray? Black? Blue? Yellow? XD
2) Serious: If only Starscream hadn't been so treacherously ambitious ... the key rips the undesirable coding right out of Starscream and writes in new. Now Starscream is loyal and obedient. It's really very eery.
2A) Ripping out code is a troublesome business. There Starscream will be going along being Starscream until he goes "shhhkt!" as the programming stumbles right over the hole and then Starscream starts back up again ... minus the treachery. XD It's kinda funny just how often and in what innocuous contexts it triggers, and in how many important moments it doesn't.
3) Romance: Okay, so Megatron's wanted to hit that since forever. So what? He didn't want an overly affectionate jet who's fascinated with his lip components, likes cuddling with him on his throne, and whispers naughty ego-stroking things into his audios at every possible opportunity ......... did he?
3A) Also, this household!bot-ery thing Starscream suddenly has going on (with that apron, ye gods!) has got to stop .... doesn't it?
