A question about crediting for icons

I see the talented people here and elsewhere posting icons with the request that they be credited if someone uses them. How exactly do I do that? Do I just leave a comment on their journal (or wherever they've made the icons available), or is there something else I'm supposed to do? I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but this is very new to me

:3 When you're uploading an icon, it gives you the option for "keyword", with is the icon's identifying title in your icon selection menu, and then "comment". Credits are simply adding something like "made by ______" in the "comment" part. :3

when you upload the just write "made by whoever" in the comments bit
