wow- the year is so close to over that I'm no longer even in New Haven. My last paper will unfortunately not be written in my chair, with my gi-normous computer and monster drinks from Durfee's. Instead, it will be tomorrow night in my basement, which is now renovated and lovely. hurrah. one more push, and I'll be dooooooone.
and then I can apply for jobs.
also, who rides trains in the states? only weird, weird people. For approximately the first half of my 24 hours trip home, I sat across from a woman who would, at random intervals, shout "Alaska Ho" to anyone who she thought did not already know her destination, and then proceed to tell them about her tribal involvement. Which, as far as I could tell, was nothing, since apparently the natives viewed her as an outsider since she hadn't been born there. Her solution? "They aren't used to society like we are. They should have more respect for their elders." I kid you not, those are direct quotes from her mouth, along with "They just aren't civilized." Umm, I hate to break it to you, but the acceptableness of blatant racist and imperialist remarks ended with the Gold Rush.
