Hi, I'm new here but I've been interested in ABe's work ever since "Haibane Renmei" and in 2004, I got into "Texhnolyze" by buying and viewing only the first DVD. Four years later on this day (that took a long time), I finally got myself the complete Collector's Box off of E-Bay and I'm eager to start watching it soon. However, because I heard so ( Read more... )

The funny thing is, I've even spoiled myself by *reading* how the ending goes. Yet, when I saw it, I was not ready for the emotional impact that still hit me. Words can't describe just how it goes, nor does it provide the musical cues that make it so poignant. Reading was one thing; seeing was another, entirely.

Just...man, it's painful. Yet, I don't find it completely a downer or pessimistic (already mentioned why) and that's why I find it so touching. Ichise's easily one of my favorite Top 5 characters and the grace note they gave him after all the crap he's been through is so...humane.

Shame how that turned out... ;_; His burial of her was so lovingly done that I get a lump in my throat every time I rewatch the ending (which has lost none of its potency).

I know some people get turned off by Ichise in the beginning because he doesn't talk much. Yet, his taciturn nature drew me in - as in, I want to know more about this guy - and when his limbs get lopped off, I felt so bad for the guy. From there on, I really rooted for him. (Gotta love the underdog).

Ichise's monologue to Ran when he's heading over the Opera House is beautiful. I really sensed his change and when "Ran" is walking aside him, it's an evocative reminder of how important she's become to him. It's very chilling foreshadowing when after he asks her, "Have you changed since I've met you?" and immediately, on her side, a Shape shows up. Gives me goosebumps, now that I look back on.

I loved him even more from Episode 12 on. I nearly cried in 13 when he reached out for Ran. (You can so sense the connection he wants to establish there). He just starts to open up, to care, and when the people he cares for die all around him - aka Onishii and Ran - I wanted to cry the tears that he didn't or couldn't. Doc's surprise shocker of "Oh, your mom's cells aren't in there" struck me so hard that it didn't surprise me when Ichise lost it. Though, I guess that's why his limbs still worked after everyone else's failed ( ... )
