Unsympathetic Arizona cop said, "You can take defensive driving in your own state and send the certificate back to us." I was crying and everything! My not having an address kinda threw him, but I was moving! I'd abandoned one address and wasn't exactly sure what the next one was going to be. As far as my stuff and my dog and my fish were concerned, whatever stretch of highway we were on at that particular moment was our current address. The cop didn't buy that.

So I get to Texas, log on to www.defensivedriving.com, complete the mindnumbing 8 hour long course, and send the certificate back to them. They say, "Noooooo on-line doesn't count, where's our $298.74? Or do you just want to be a wanted woman in Arizona from here on out?"

Now that I'm thinking about it, I haven't had a ticket in 3 years. That's some sort of record for me. Rogers, Texas when I was 17 or so in one of those "speed limit changes from 55 to 30 in about ten feet so they nail pretty much everyone" situations. Right outside of Houston on 290 (and I would have gotten out of that one if Relampago hadn't licked the cop's hand and my mom hadn't started bitching him out) when I was 18. Vernon, Texas when I was maybe 25 or 26 (another one that I would have gotten out of had my father not helpfully told the cop I was driving to Spring Break). Outside of College Station, Texas on the infamous SS Hussy roadtrip in 2000, which never showed up on any driving record because I was in a rental car and apparently the cop was too lazy to track down my California information.

I've just jinxed myself.

I'm sorry about the holes in your license. That sucks.

It has been almost 3 years since I left Texas. I flew and the company shipped my car. My cat thanked me, plus no speeding tickets or long-ass drives across the desert.
