I just got my first speeding ticket in the state of Illinois; it was the first speeding ticket I've had in er, 17 years at least. Did you know that in Illinois as bond for your fine they actually physically take your license? I was all "WHAAAA?" I mean, yes, you have a ticket that you can show is in place of the license, but it's not a photo id. you can't write checks, or fly, or buy alcohol (the most important thing, of course) or do anything that requires a valid photo ID. Plus, they mail it back to you. I don't trust the mail! Also, it will have a hole in it where they stapled it to the ticket. Bah. BAH I SAY!
Unsympathetic Arizona cop said, "You can take defensive driving in your own state and send the certificate back to us." I was crying and everything! My not having an address kinda threw him, but I was moving! I'd abandoned one address and wasn't exactly sure what the next one was going to be. As far as my stuff and my dog and my fish were concerned, whatever stretch of highway we were on at that particular moment was our current address. The cop didn't buy that

It has been almost 3 years since I left Texas. I flew and the company shipped my car. My cat thanked me, plus no speeding tickets or long-ass drives across the desert.
It's so hard to believe it's been so long since I've seen you!
I miss the people too, but not the Bay Area; I love it up here so much. I hope someday I'm well enough to visit Houston and see the place you love so much, too.
