and man, in school in the 60s we were constantly told "I" was always correct; it wasn't until the 80s that I learnt that trick for knowing when to use I vs me.
I've always been uncertain aboutthe I vs Me ... and usually use I ... it "sounds" right? I'm still confused about the rules, even after reading this post ( *fail* ) dang.
I found it very frustrating when I learnt that my grade school teachers had taught me to use "I" when it wasn't right -- it took a lot of work for it to not sound right to me since I'd been trained that way til my mid 20s!
I don't know if this is helpful since I"m pretty low on spoons today, but here are some of the thigns I remember.
I goes along with he, she, they, we, while me goes along with him, her, them, us: I'm going to the store vs Would you like to to go the store with me? Sometimes that can clear up the confusion -- does they or them sound better? Us the I/me that matches.
If one is doing something iwth someone else, use the form that would also be correct if one is doing it alone, ie "Me at Lea's party" and "Jack and me at Lea's party" vs "When I dressed up for the fair" or "When Jack and I dressed up for the fair"
