WoW: We made our first attempt on Rotface last night. Still having some difficulty on the transitions after the first Big Ooze explodes and the first two small oozes come out. We've got the mechanics down, now it's just execution, so that's a good sign.
Still havent' attempted Festergut -- our best DPS (he's equal to two of the rest of our DPS) is on night shift until next weekend. We won't be going back in until he's back on Saturday. I'm predicting success once he's on board -- both for Festergut and Rotface. Our healers have come further than ever -- I'm finally seeing a three man team pull equivalent numbers, rather than one or two of them carrying the third. This is good -- we may need to move one to DPS to be Festergut's enrage, and I want to feel comfortable with our healers in that scenario.
We've also moved into Trial of the Grand Champion. That was an eye-opener.
Final Fantasy XIII: Here's my summary of FF13 -- Intro, press A, would you like to save?, cut scene, would you like to save?, cut scene, press A, cutscene, please insert disc 2.
There's a lot more gameplay on disc 2, but it's still on rails. I'm on disc 3 now, and it fiinally feels like the plot rails might be ending and I'll actually have a world to explore.
It's pretty. It's very pretty. It's almost pretty enough to make up for the fact that there's zero gameplay on the first disc. Combat runs on autopilot, customization is minimal, there's no real exploration to do. This is the first game in the franchise that I've been inclined to play only in 90-minute bursts. Every other game in the franchise I'd play from the time I got home to the time I went to bed. This? After about 90 minute I'm just done. It's not me losing interest in the hobby (WoW, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age all got the compulsive play that the previous installments got).
They've indicated the next offline core installment in the franchise will be modeled after the Western-style RPG -- open world out of the gate, less emphaisis on main plot, more emphasis on side quests. I hope so. At the very least, I hope I actually feel like I've had a chance to play the game when I hit the eight hour mark.
Everything else: Running a D&D game now while my regular game's DM takes a break. Haven't run one in a very long time, so this is interesting. Enjoying it so far.
Houston made the NCAA tournament. We washed out in the first game, then our coach quit. Um, I'll hold off having an opinion on all this until I see who we hire.
Today, I felt something entirley new -- my pulse. In my tooth (one of the bad ones I need to yank out). Not sure what that means, but it's creepy.
