“I swear I didn’t put those there.” Sandra stared down at the earrings in her hand, the special silver dangles she’d had for as long as she and Noah’d been together. One of the first presents he’d ever given her. Definitely not something she’d ever, ever leave on the kitchen counter. She hadn’t worn the things for weeks, anyway. And she distinctly remembered putting them back in her jewelry box afterwards. She always put her jewelry away. She frowned in puzzlement. There’d be no Earthly reason for her to leave them in the kitchen. And the kids knew better than to mess around with her things. They’d have no reason to, anyway. A sudden headache stabbed into her temples. Maybe she should lie down for awhile. She’d obviously been overdoing it lately. She couldn’t even remember why she’d come to the kitchen in the first place. Or what she’d been doing for the last… She glanced at the clock. Was it really 4:30? Where had the afternoon gone? She hadn’t even started fixing dinner yet. She slipped the earrings into her pocket, setting the problem aside for later.
