Honestly, there is not a lot I can do today because of technology that I could not do 5 years ago. I looked at a lot of the other answers to try and get some ideas, and most of those things were available 5 years ago. MP3's have been around a while now, closer to ten years, not five. IMing friends and family, AIM was one of the first internet programs, and was one of the first to be put on a phone, both over 5 years old. TiVo, much much older than 5 years, I was selling DVR's 10 years ago for Panasonic.
Thinking about it, the only thing I can think of is that we have full internet capability on our cells now, assuming you are not in the wrong area that is. Still as I do not use 3G devices this does not mean much to me.
On the other hand I can think of many things I could do 5 years ago, that I cannot do now. As an example, if I was being treated poorly at work, I could just get another one, typically within a week or so. 5 years ago my money seemed to go a lot further, but my wage hasn't changed, funny that? Why do I mention this?
Because Intel, Sponsors of Tomorrow, do most of their assemby outside of the United States. From their website" The company has six assembly and test sites worldwide and is building a seventh, all of them outside the U.S. Assembly and test sites outside the United States are located in Shanghai, China; Chengdu, China; San Jose, Costa Rica; Kulim, Malaysia; Penang, Malaysia; and Cavite, Philippines. An assembly and testing site in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, is under construction."
So when you wonder where all the jobs went, why your money doesn't stretch like it used to, just be glad we have new technology like the IPod... oh wait it's not that new.
