Honor in war

George Bush Senior, on the first Gulf War

Bush: “My favorite picture is a picture of American soldiers surrounding a guy whose been in a foxhole, Iraqi soldier, and the American guy says, we’re not going to harm you, we’re American soldiers.”

I voted solidly Democratic in the 2006 elections because I thought the Democrats would rein in the evil that Bush has inflicted on the Constitution, on our standing in the world, and on the many hundreds of people unlawfully imprisoned and in some cases tortured by our government.

With a few honorable exceptions like Chris Dodd, they haven't done much. The best I can say for them is that things haven't gotten noticeably worse. And I wonder if they really believe in liberty, or merely, like Bush the Younger, use it as a slogan to win elections.

We need more heroes.
