Article 824 of the Gundam Fighter's handbook:

A sandbag is a training tool, useful for any fighter. It is the sandbag's privilege to be a sparring partner, as a sandbag cannot feel pain.

I wouldn't mind a real workout, if you're looking for a practice round in the ring.

Gotta keep in shape, right? Good for you, kid. Too many people rely on their machines or magic around here, and neglect to train their bodies.

Even more important for people who grew up in the colonies. My body grew up only having gravity half the time. It does bad things to your muscles and bones.
