He's not alone, as it shortly becomes obvious when a woman breaks the surface, letting out a long huff of stale breath. She treads water easily, though there's a certain overeager quality to her movement, as if she needs more effort just to stay afloat than she should.

She hooks her arm around a ladder, halfway pulling herself up. Though she's wearing just a one-piece swimsuit of some shimmery, lustrous material, there's a strange weapon at her side, a huge technicolor handgun seemingly adhered right to the suit and unharmed by the water.

"Hi!" she says brightly, offering a wave to Eridan. She's really quite pretty, and has a rather pleasant figure, heaving as her chest is to replenish her oxygen supply.

That startles him enough to make him stumble backwards, instinctively pulling his rifle from his Sylladex until conscious thought catches up to him and he realises, oh, right, friendly person. Not a water monster considering having a snack. Which only makes him lower the weapon, not put it away entirely, because if trolls had middle names 'Paranoia' would be one of many contenders for his. "Uh."

He pauses a moment to kind of just... stare... because never mind that outfit or any of her obvious feminine charms (well, the ones that are close enough to troll ones that he would notice them). He's never seen a landdweller swim before, which leads to the obvious conclusion of... "I didn't know they had seadwellin' humans too."

Tess laughs, bright and cheerful, and she pulls herself from the water, balancing on the edge of the deck-plating to look almost as though she's going to fall backwards in again.

"I was just goin' fer a swim," she says, hands on her hips. She's not very imposing, not in bare feet with her hair still dripping wet, but there's a certain self-assured presence about her... one that the distinct Southern Appalachian accent definitely has an effect on, though possibly for good or bad. She does, at least, seem very much friendly.

At least she neither reeks of stale sweat and dirt, nor is telling him he's too young to be out here by himself, so he can deal with that presence and friendly air. With a still slightly confused stare, he shakes his head and puts the Crosshairs away before moving past her to dive neatly into the water. When he surfaces, he's still puzzled. "Where I'm from if you're the kind a being who lives on land you don't swim it's not a thin' you do."

Her eyes watch the motion as he re-sylladexes the gun. Her happy expression doesn't change, but there's still something needle-sharp in her gaze, like she's analyzing what she's seen.

"Humans swim a fair heap when they wanna, and this is the most water there is anywhere 'round here." She finally tilts too far, and hits the water like a brick, the water splashing broadly as she breaks the surface tension. Under the surface, she sinks slowly, her eyes closed.
