1 - Dueling Party
The whole thing had actually been Juudai's idea, but Rei was happy to go along with it, especially since  there needed to be snacks! The party was open to anyone who was interested in Duel Monsters, whether they were pros, newcomers or people who just played as a hobby. Well, they called it a party, but it was really more of an ice ( Read more... )

Emil had been watching her pace about for the last couple of minutes, and only now he'd gathered the courage to walk up to her and talk to her.

"U-um...what's wrong?"

"Huh?" Rei turned when Emil spoke to her, her expression softening slightly. She recognized the blond as a boy she had seen around before, but never actually spoke to.

"Well.... I've just been under a lot of pressure lately, that's all." She sighed and ran a hand through her bangs.

"Oh..." She looked really stressed. He hoped he wasn't bothering her, but now that he'd started a conversation with her, he may as well continue it.

"If you need any help...I'll help you!"

Rei's expression brightened a little and she smiled appreciatively. "Thanks. I think I need something that'll get my mind off things right now..." And it certainly wasn't going to be training. Nu-uh. No way. Especially not when that's what frustrated her in the first place. Dueling? Somehow, the thought just gave her a headache. Besides, where would she find an opponent, anyway? Aki, Ruka, Crow, and Juudai-sama were all off on a mission. "... Any ideas?"

Heat grinned back. "It did! That was perfect, and a lot of fun too! Man, I wish all missions were as easy and fun as this..."

He folded his arms behind his head and looked up, at the sky.

Rei giggled. "So do I, Atsuishi-kun! Though, this is the first time I've seen you in action before.. You were really good with magic out there!" The blue-haired girl beamed at her companion, and it was clear she had just as much fun as he did.

"You too! Your Thunder really saved me back there!" He looked over to her, smiling. "You and Haruya would work well together!"

"Yeah, but your timing with that Fire spell was incredible! I still owe you one for that!" She looked up and gave his other statement some thought. "You really think so? I bet you'd work well together with Juudai-sama! Oh, oh, oh! Better yet, what if all four of us teamed up? That would be simply amazing!"

"Am I too late for the party?"

Twilight Sparkle had showed up, holding a large basket of food upright with her magic, horn glittering.

Rei whirled around to face Twilight Sparkle, grinning. "Not at all! Feel free to join in!"

She quickly turned to make space on the table for the basket of food that the pony brought. "I'm glad you showed up, actually. The more, the merrier, as they say~"

"I've never been to a duel party before," replied Twilight, setting the food down and using her magic to set the food out on the table, all courtesy of Apple Jack who had sent along food. "What's it like? I never found anything in my books about it."

"Well, the party is centered around this game called Duel Monsters. We're giving a crash course on it later for the newcomers, plus an exhibition duel-- Wow, all that food looks really good!"

Kyle was equally as cheerful. "Yeah, we'll be heroes in no time!"

Rei giggled at the boy's cheerfulness. "I dunno~ According to that old goat back at Olympus Coliseum, becoming a hero takes a lot longer than you'd think!"

"Oh, what does he know anyway?" Kyle said, pouting and crossing his arms. "I bet he doesn't see other world's heroes!"

"Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't~ That's something I'm not intent on finding out for now. I'm not going back to that place as long as I can manage." Rei let out a small sigh.

Juudai sauntered up to Rei from behind, reaching directly over her and snatching a cold shrimp from the plate it was arranged on and completely ruining the symmetry. He chewed it with a thoughtful expression, and then came to the only conclusion he could.

"Fried shrimp beat cold anyday," he said with a grin as he swallowed.

Well, the food was there for eating after all. And trust Juudai to go straight for the shrimp. Rei simply grinned and produced a final tray from her bag, a smaller one that was covered. She held it out to Juudai, beaming.

"Then you just happen to be in luck, Juudai-sama~ I made this exclusively for you."

He stared for a moment in awe, then broke out into an even bigger grin after a moment, swiping a carefully-breaded shrimp off the tray and stuffing it in his mouth without hesitation.

"I knew I was smelling something good somewhere! Like I'm smelling a duel in your near future, yeah?" he said with a smile. "And-- hey, does that 'exclusively for you' mean I get them all?" A facetious question, but it was worth asking, wasn't it?

"Trust you to smell fried shrimp-- and duels-- a mile away!" Rei laughed. "We're going to have to show the newbies how, anyway, right? And yes, you get all of those." Rei herself swiped a brownie from a tray on the table and took a bite.
