This Thursday, 18th August, there will be a school board meeting at Eisenhower (hwy 7), at which numerous parents and students involved with the HHS theatre department will be addressing the school board about the use of the new theatre.
This includes alums and current students alike/your parents.
The gist is this: the district owns the theatre, and billed it as a forum for student activites before the vote on the referendum happened; they amended this statement during construction to include non-district/non-scholastic revenue-generating companies/programs/community business. They are already misusing the new theatre by failing to give student performances/activites priority over revenue-generating stuff, and this hurts rather than helps the school's usually good reputation and the departments that use the theatre. In addition, the administration has repeatedly proven itself to be insensitive to the needs of the HHS theatre department, and many different instances and situations have resulted in the loss of John and Janet Trow, and Mark Johnson.
Therefore, those of us with a clear knowledge of the value of performing arts in high schools, and of competent teachers thereof, are gathering to issue formal complaints to the school board. I am inviting every student from HHS who has ever been involved with a theatre production at the high school to come and show your support for the program this Thursday (18th) at Eisenhower (hwy 7). We have been told by a member of the school board that NUMBERS COUNT. Please, consider attending - you will not be obligated to speak, only to sit and support.
We will be arriving between 5:30 and 5:45 pm on Thursday to gather before going in to the meeting. If you have any further questions, please email me: kmgeston@cord.edu
I'd love to see all my friends standing up for that which brought us together.
