A wholly unique entry wherein I discuss Kate and Album 3

Yeah, I get giddy when I get a text from her. They've grown to have a kind of tone that seems... more affectionate? I'm not sure, but I'm not gonna read into it much more than that. They do make me really happy to receive them. Happier than they should? Doesn't matter. She thinks about me a lot and misses me, I think about her a lot and miss her. Wink wink, smiley smiley. Taking it for what it is: nice, minus the whole on-a-completely-different-continent thing. Of course... Guyana in October? That'll be interesting.

We've got a track list for the third album now. It's pretty sweet, pretty exciting. Better than the last two combined, I swear. Track listing!

Wishing You A Happy Cataclysm

1. Our Own Song
2. He's All About You
3. Doomsday Season
4. I Want To Go Back
5. Get Out
6. This Drink
7. I'm Told I Don't Like You
8. Don't Say It
9. How Do I?
10. ZD + Me
11. One On One
12. West Wind Soul
13. Sellout!
14. You Only Live Once
15. Sunshine & Blue Skies

I joke about how this album is "the Kate album", because 5 or 6 of the songs on it are inspired by or straight up about her. Of course, I didn't tell her the unofficial name of the album, though she knows a couple of these songs are about her (and enjoys them! /hi5). I also enjoy the overall more lighthearted nature of the album. I consider "Doomsday Season", "I'm Told I Don't Like You", "ZD + Me", and "Sellout!" comedy songs. "Our Own Song", "You Only Live Once", and "Sunshine & Blue Skies" are fun and happy songs about just generally enjoying life to its fullest. "West Wind Soul" is a bittersweet number, a recognition of the promises and pains of change and distance, but the hope and determination of reconnecting. "He's All About You" is just a fun love song with really colorful imagery.

Of course, sad songs featured are "I Want To Go Back", "This Drink", "Don't Say It", "How Do I?", and "One On One", but they're quite varied. "I Want To Go Back" about missing childhood years, "This Drink" about alcoholism, "Don't Say It" is a silly sad love song about not being able to move on, "How Do I?" is the very teenagey shtick of not knowing how to get into your friend's pants (well, a little more romantic than that I guess), and "One On One" is a story about feeling alone and stranded at a party. So they're mostly legit songs.

I feel like the album takes the best bits of the first two and improves upon them. It's a very poppy endeavor, even more so than the previous ones. The composition and recording is also tighter, better sounding. I'm also happy with the lyrics all across the board. I'm so excited to finish this album, even more now after writing about it some more.

So pumped.
