Open Mic -- Murray's Tavern, Salem, NH

Jan 05, 2012 00:46

Such a wonderful night.

Took Kate to a really awesome open mic in Salem, NH. She had this really cute shirt on, very floral but very... bohemian a little bit maybe? I dunno. It looked really cute on her. She had a wavy little bun thing going on with her hair that was a little sexy, I dunno... She looked really pretty tonight.

I played 4 songs, one of them a request she had (ironically the one song of the night I played that was about her (she doesn't know this yet (maybe))). I started off with "16 Bit" which came out better than expected. I screwed up a little bit on "This Drink", but it sounded good, too, I thought. Followed that up with her request, a little love song called "How Do I?", which is essentially a song about not having the balls to ask someone out because the narrator doesn't know how to go about it. After that I attempted / massacred "Our Own Song" while the sound system started going on the fritz and cutting out. I think that's what threw me off really, but whatever. The other 3 were pretty great for the most part.

She played after me, performing her old friend Chelsea's song that she just calls "Chelsea's Song", and then she performed "Boat Song", followed by a failed but still lovely attempt at "Butterfly Wings". Unlike me, however, she saved herself on song four, "Skipping Rocks", playing one of the best renditions of it I have ever heard. The best part is I caught her entire performance (and then some, ha! ha! ha!) on camera. I'll have to get a copy of it to her mum.

It was a half hour drive each way, at least, so we did a lot of singing / screaming, mostly Jimmy Eat World. It was a whole lot of fun, and she has such a beautiful voice. Sadly of course, every road has an end, and tonight's was her driveway. Of course, no wonderful unrequited night is complete without a healthy quotation and refrain of "stupid! stupid! stupid!"

Mostly because I was planning on mentioning something about the whole "hey Kate, I really dig you" thing. Yea, didn't happen. Maybe I'll write her a little letter or something, because I'm sure as hell not gonna grow some balls any time soon.

God I can be such a chump sometimes. It's been a long time since I've even really cared about something like this. It's... weird.
