I haven't had much luck in the kitchen lately.
I made
White Bean and Kale Soup for dinner the other day. It should have been good--kale, white beans, sweet potatoes--but apparently I don't care for smoked paprika. So three-quarters of the soup is sitting in a container in our fridge, waiting to be eaten or else thrown out.
Then I made
Ginger Glazed Mahi Mahi for dinner another night. The glaze was awesome--definitely, try the glaze--but Bear found the mahi mahi had a fishy taste he didn't care for.
With the fish, I made
Roasted Potatoes and Artichokes. Bear didn't care for the crispiness of the artichokes, nor the "piney" taste of the thyme. Next time I'll make
my usual roasted potatoes.
Rowan, however, found an artichoke piece on the floor--we were eating dinner in the living room--and she loved it. She kept looking at us, waiting for us to take away this neat thing she was chewing on, because, of course, I don't usually feed her on the living room floor. :p
Finally, I baked the remaining kale today to make kale chips (I tore up the kale, spritzed it with olive oil, sprinkled it with kosher salt, and baked it at 350 degrees F. for 10 minutes, which was a bit too long). Some combination of kale's natural bitterness and over-baking the chips made them just too bitter for me. I ate most of them, but then I had to have a piece of chocolate. :) Rowan wanted what I was eating--doesn't she always?--but she was NOT a fan. She couldn't spit out all of the kale--it crumbled up in her mouth--and she didn't want to nurse because she was too ticked off. It was kind of funny, actually. (I'm such a mean mommy.)
We spent yesterday afternoon and evening with
11_11_bride and her family, and it was a lot of fun. Rowan is a big fan of their cat.
She has also really been into food lately. She dived into a bowl of veggie chips on the floor at
11_11_bride's house, and then at dinner she gnawed on chicken, potatoes, and cooked carrots. She even tried out one of O.'s sippy cups.
My only success in the kitchen this week was another batch of
flourless peanut butter cookies, half of which I took with us yesterday. This time I rolled them in cinnamon-sugar instead of plain sugar. I think they're better that way.
