Pairings: Akame, Kurosawa Akihiko/Ishida Yuya & a brief mention of Akihiko/Anego

Chapter Seven

“Aniki,” Akihiko tried to reason with his older brother. “This is insane! You’re gonna kill Kame’s career growth if you make him your secretary!”

Jin cleared his throat. “He’s just not some secretary Aki - he’s gonna be more or less in charge of anything administrative related! How is that killing his career growth?” his forehead knotted in annoyance. “My decision is final - Kamenashi-kun will be reporting to my office starting Monday next week, understood?”

“What about me? What am I gonna do without a secretary?” Aki grumbled, knowing that he lost this battle. When his brother is set on something, nothing will change his mind.

“I found a perfect replacement for you. He’ll report here on Monday as well.” Jin grinned.

“Fine.” Aki suddenly grinned. “You know, I doubt Kame will like the idea of working with you.”

“I doubt he would. There are many perks with working for the CEO, you know.” Jin confidently said. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a net meeting in… ten minutes.” The older man said and exited the office of the marketing head.

Kame cautiously bowed his head in respect when the big boss passed by his table. The unnerving grin that Jin had pasted on his face irritated Kame to no end. Once he was sure that Jin was gone, he entered the enclosed office and saw Aki pacing back and forth the room.

“Is... he really asking for my transfer?”

“How did you know?” Aki asked, wide-eyed.

“Rumor mills.” Kame shrugged. “And… is it really true?”

“I’m sorry, I tried to persuade him otherwise, but his decision was final on making you his secretary.”

Kame felt chills run through his body. “I’m really gonna be working with him…?”

Aki solemnly nodded. “I did my best for him to reconsider…”

That time, Kame thought of resigning but decided against it. With Japan’s economic recession, he doubted if he could find a job immediately.

“Kazu-chan?” Aki called out worriedly.

“Hm? Oh..” Kame cleared his throat. “Sorry… I was just reconsidering my options…”

“You’re not thinking of resigning right?”

Kame shook his head. “You know I can’t afford to quit my job.”

The reason why he couldn’t was known by his close workmates, Mary-san and Aki.

Aki sighed for the nth time that day. “I’ll talk to him again-”

“No… it’s okay. I… I guess I have no choice but to put up with his request.”

Aki doubtfully stared at Kame. “Are you sure like… really sure?”

Kame shrugged. “Like I have any choice.” He took a deep breath. “At least I still have a job, right?”

“Well…”

“It’s really okay.” An impish grin showed up on the smaller man’s face. “I’ll just have to make him regret making me his secretary then!” he said cheerfully to appease his worried friend.

Aki returned the grin. “That’s what I love about you!” he giggled childishly, very unlike the man of his standing and position.

Kame huffed. “Yeah… well I’m hoping he won't be terminating me after.”

“I doubt he would. He won't consider making you his secretary if he wasn’t impressed with your work.”

“You’ll never know.” Kame suddenly glared at Aki. “Now do your work!”

“Yes sir!” Aki mocked saluted.

Kame threw a paper clip at Aki and it hit the latter’s forehead. The younger man immediately left the office before his boss could take his revenge on him.

Yuya stared at his department head in confusion. “I’m sorry sir… you must be mistaking me for someone else. I don’t think I’m qualified to become someone else’s secretary! I’m just a temp worker.”

Nino sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Yes, I am fully aware that you’re a temp worker but that doesn’t matter. The order came from higher management, from the big boss himself! So now, instead of wondering how and why you got the job, focus on making your benefactor proud of his decision for transferring you to marketing and giving you this opportunity.”

“But I don’t know anything about marketing! And I’m an advertising undergrad!”

“Yes, I believe we have already established that.” Nino felt his head swimming.

“So why?”

“Look, if you want to know the answer, go to Akanishi Jin - he was the one who requested your transfer.” Nino stood up. “He can answer your questions more than I can.”

Yuya stood up and bowed politely at Nino. “Thank you sir.” He said and only received a nod and a hand motion shooing him out of the office.

Yuya headed straight to the 35th floor where their big boss is situated. Who would have known accidentally bumping into the boss would cause him to be promoted?

“Um… Yuya hesitantly called the attention of Jin’s secretary.

“Yes?” the secretary said with a smile.

“Ano… I was wondering if… I can talk to Akanishi-san? I don’t have an appointment… I just… but I understand if…” he started babbling.

An amused chuckle was heard from the direction of Jin’s office.

“Nino called and told me you were coming to ask some questions?” Jin opened the door to his office a bit wider. “Come on in.”

Yuya doubtfully entered the office.

“So,” Jin took a seat and gestured for Yuya to do the same. “Are you not happy with the position?”

“It’s not that I’m not happy… I was just… wondering why… I’m not exceptional in any way to be offered such opportunity. In fact, I’m just a temp worker and I’m only in charge of delivering documents back and forth from advertising to the other departments. I’m not-”

“Qualified?” Jin tsk’d. “If you have such low opinion of yourself, you’ll never make it through this business, more so, with life.” Jin said with his arms in akimbo and a frown on his face. “If you’re THAT worried, I can send you to marketing and shadow Kamenashi-kun until Friday so that you’ll get used with your new post.” He lifted the handset of his desk phone and dialed Aki’s direct extension.

“’Lo? Aniki, what is it now? My report is not due until 5 and it’s only 11 AM!” Aki grumbled softly.

“I’m not calling you for that.” Jin grunted. “I’ll send your new secretary down and he’ll be shadowing Kamenashi so he can get a hang of the job. Tell Kamenashi to teach Ishida-kun everything he does.”

“I will. Ishida was it?”

“Yes, Ishida Yuya-kun.”

“Okay.”

A click was heard and then the dial tone. Jin glowered at Aki hanging up on him. “Okay - go to marketing and look for Kamenashi. He’s the one you’re replacing and he’ll teach you everything about your new post. I’ll call Ninomiya and tell him your transfer is effective this minute.”

Sensing that their conversation was over, Yuya stood up and bowed. “Thank you so much sir.”

Jin shrugged, not looking up from the documents he was reading. “You’re more that welcome. Do me proud.”

A/N: New change… won’t be cross posting anything to fic comms and all fic updates will be f-locked so only you guys can read them. Might be unlocking my journal in the near future… but I don’t see that happening soon… I’m sad that it reached this point but there’s nothing I can do about it... *sad smile* I had to do this to make myself happy or else I won’t be writing anything at all. I’m not sure if anyone can understand how I’m feeling… probably not because I don’t understand it myself. updated 8/6/2009: already x-posted.

I’ll be posting Secret Agent next, Circumstances and then Consequences of Being Late within the week, if there’s any luck at me having time to write it… Hope you’ll watch out for it.

Thanks for sticking with me even though I’m such an asshole for taking this action.
