Chapter Five

Mary-san gloomily exited her office and called Kame’s attention. “Kamenashi-kun, please call everyone. I have something important to discuss to you all.”

Kame nodded and Mary went back to her office. Once making sure that everyone was present and accountable for in the marketing department, Kame knocked twice on Mary’s door and opened it. “Ma’am, everyone’s here.”

The old woman stood up and sighed heavily. “Good.” She gestured for everyone to cram into the small office. “I called you all here because I’m retiring.” She grunted. “Well, more like I was forced by my nephew. He says I’m old and that I should enjoy my life after working for this company for so many years.”

Everyone went quiet. They were saddened with the news - they adore and respect the old woman and some of them even see her as their grandmother figure.

Yoko, the person who worked the longest for Mary-san, spoke up. “When… is it effective?”

After his question, everyone spoke simultaneously.

“Who will be the next marketing head?”

“But you’re not even over 60!”

“This is so unfair! If you leave, I will resign!”

Mary raised her right hand to stop the commotion. “That’s so sweet of you boys! But really, don’t worry about your next boss - he’s not a slave driver, trust me.” She winked at Kame, who frowned, his heart beating wildly.

‘Masaka?’ Kame thought, AJ in his mind. ‘Don’t tell me it’s him. Oh please, not him. I’d rather I get Aki as my boss.’ He thought furiously, remembering the rough kiss Jin gave him in the elevator.

“It’s not gonna be AJ, right, Mary-san?” Koki asked loudly.

There were hushed whispers.

Mary laughed. “I told you, your next boss wouldn’t be a slave driver, so Jin’s clearly out of the question!”

“Then who?” Kame asked, his worries gone.

“It’s gonna be me!” said the jovial voice of Aki, who was leaning by the office’s doorframe.

“There, it’s my youngest nephew who will take over starting tomorrow.” Mary continued. “Whatever loyalty you’ve given me, please give it to him also. Akihiko-kun will be a good addition to this already dependable department.” She gave a smile at her subordinates. “That’s it. Go back to work everyone except for Kamenashi-kun.” she signaled for Aki to come forward as well. “Seat down.” Mary said to both men. “So, since you’re my assistant Kamenashi-kun, please assist Aki-chan to transition from Finance to Marketing.” She turned to Aki. “I’m surprised you accepted this position. Isn’t this… a …” she shut her mouth, remembering Kame’s presence.

Although she knows the two are good friends, she doesn’t know if Kame is aware that Anego was a part of marketing department in another company where Akihiko once worked as a marketing assistant.

“I have to face reality Aunt Mary.” Aki smiled sadly. “Finance just isn’t my forte. Tomo-chan is better suited there, and I, here.” He glanced at Kame. “And I get Kame as my gofer too!” he grinned manically, jokingly of course.

Kame just laughed at Aki.

“Okay. You two, I have to pack my things.” Mary made shooing motions.

“I can pack them up for you.” Kame offered.

“No, I only have a few things here. What I meant is I have to make sure all things that I need to transition to Aki here will be ready by 5 or Jin-kun would be upset.”

Aki laughed and Kame snorted discretely at the mention of Jin’s name.

“Do you mind if I take Kame to lunch?” Aki asked.

“I don’t.” Mary was back to studying some file and didn’t bother to look up at the two.

“Great!” Aki dragged Kame out of the room. “Thanks, obasan!”

-----
Jin wondered greatly if it really was a good idea to have Mary-obasan retire and have Aki replace her as the marketing head.

Not that he didn’t believe in Aki’s talent. No, that wasn’t the case at all!

It was because of Kamenashi Kazuya. It was too late for Jin to remember the fact that Kame was the assistant to the marketing head.

Meaning, he’ll become Aki’s assistant.

Jin heaved a heavy sigh. ‘I must find a way to break them apart.’ He thought. ‘It isn’t good for Aki to fall in love with someone like Kamenashi Kazuya…’ Not after Aki lost Anego… who had the same qualities with Kame when it came to work. ‘I guess that is what attracted Aki to him in the first place.’ Jin thought gloomily.

Speaking of the two, Jin spotted the two men walking out of the building, their laughter heard by everyone on the first floor lobby.

Jin growled and decided to follow where the two are headed. ‘Probably for lunch?’ he concluded to himself, getting in to his car to tail Aki’s car.

-----
“Where are we going?” Kame wondered aloud as he wore his seatbelt.

“Home. I brought some ingredients for oden. I thought you’d want to cook for me.” Aki smiled at Kame as he drove off the car park.

“But I only have one hour lunch.” Kame dumbly stated. “And oden can take hours to cook!”

“I’m your boss now so if I say we’re eating out, or when I say cook for me, then you shouldn’t question it!” Aki said in a bratty voice. He was only joking, of course.

Kame snorted. “Doesn’t mean that because you’re my boss, you can make me do things for you!”

“Oh, but I can!” Aki chuckled. “Kidding aside, really, I just wanted to eat some home cooked meal that’s why I brought you out.” He whispered conspiratorially “I heard from Mary-obasan that you cook really well so I thought, why not?”

“What, am I your cook now too?”

Aki grinned from ear-to-ear. “Hmmm… that thought is certainly tempting!”

Kame lightly smacked Aki’s forehead. “Eyes on the road, mister!” he said affectionately.

“Sir, yes sir!” Aki replied.

“You do know that this is the reason why your brother is after me, right?” Kame suddenly said, referring to their apparent familiarity with each other.

Aki tsk’d. “Why, are you worried about his opinion?” he smirked lightly.

“Huh? No! what are you talking about?” Kame denied.

“Hmmm~ I’m smelling something fishy about your denial, Kame-chan~~” Aki singsong’d. “You’re not… falling for him, are you?”

“I’m not.” Kame vehemently answered. “I’m just worried that he’ll be sprouting nonsense to me again once he realizes that it was him who placed you in my care, so to speak~”

Aki hummed. “Now that you mentioned it, it is kind of weird of him to place me in charge of marketing when he knows that you’re there and he’s intent on separating us.” He smirked. “Oh, but don’t worry. I think he got the clue that I’m not really into you or something.”

“That’s what you think. But I don’t know what he’s thinking so I really don’t know what I’m talking about.” Kame sighed.

“Don’t worry about him. I’ll talk to him and explain our situation, if you like. You know, make it clear to him that I see you as my younger brother and not like what’s he’s thinking.” Aki couldn’t help but tease the younger man. “Why don’t you just admit it that you don’t want him to think we’re together so he can woo you?”

Kame hit Aki slightly hard than he did earlier. “Shut up and drive!”

Aki just grinned and continued driving.

-----
Jin frowned upon reaching the familiar neighborhood. “Isn’t this… Aki and Anego’s apartment?” his frown deepened when he saw Aki opening the door for Kame and linked his left arm with Kame’s arm to drag the smaller man into the premise. ‘Shit!’ he cursed. ‘Has Aki fallen deeply in love with Kamenashi?’ Enough that he’ll bring him to this apartment… a place where Aki and Anego had their happy times together?

A place… where even Jin wasn’t allowed entrance.

‘Damn it! You’re not gonna succeed in deluding my brother, Kamenashi! Whatever It is that you’re aiming to get from Aki, I’ll make sure you won’t achieve your goal.’

Jin was unaware of the building jealousy inside of him.

All he knows is that he needed to take Kame away from Aki.

And fast!

A/N: Did the chapter make sense at all? I was drowsy and depressed when I wrote this on my notebook (mainly because I was in the mood to write and not able to type it directly to the computer because my monitor went dead last week.) I hope the chapter really wasn’t that bad!

And I know, I promised Consequences of Being Late to be updated next. Don’t worry, that’s coming next this weekend! I’ll make sure to write and post it *grins* you wouldn’t believe how the idea of the next chapter for it is crazy *laughs*

Unbeta’d! Almost late for work so I just typed it without editing or something. Forgive me for grammatical errors please~? XD
