It was the prickling of the hairs on the back of his arm and the almost imperceptible change in the texture of the light as it played across his closed eyelid that clued Xander into the fact that he was no longer alone. He certainly hadn't heard anyone approach, not that he would have heard anything or anyone over the combination of crashing waves and country music blaring from the earpieces of his ipod. The ground was cold against his back, a hard bed he had made for himself by being a total bonehead. He would much have preferred being snuggled up in his warm bed at home with the usual arm thrown across his chest and the loud snore disturbing his sleep. Not going to happen now, in fact never going to happen again. He prised open his eye, ready to give who ever it was... but they were in his blind spot and he was too drunk to move.

"Clear off, what ever it is you're selling I'm not interested," he grunted his tone weary but loud enough so that whoever was interrupting his well earned misery would get the hint and take a hike leaving him to contemplate how much life sucked, so much that when you thought it couldn't get worse it did and sucked even more.

Said insight of course being confirmed when he was yanked off the ground and set swaying on his feet, his stance unsteady, the result of a combination of JD and the wind which was whipping across the shore.

"Hey watch it," he complained as the earpieces were wrenched painfully out of his ears and he finally managed to get his bleary eye focused on his assailant.

"Angel," he spat on the ground and swung drunkenly in the vampire’s direction only to land flat on his ass.

"Get up Xander," snarled Angel scowling down at him and making no pretence of offering a hand as Xander scrambled to his knees, his back to the vampire, didn't stop him glaring at Angel over his shoulder though.

"So what do you want. Come to gloat have you?"

"No!"

"Sure you haven't! So what do you really want then?" asked Xander peeved at being disturbed.

"Acting as a delivery man," replied Angel, his voice even more monotone than usual, devoid even of the undercurrent of dislike that always existed whenever the two of them exchanged more than two words.

"Did she send you?" asked Xander his tone more subdued now, wariness replacing the earlier hostility.

Angel didn't answer the question; reaching in and depositing a small exquisitely shaped ring box in Xander's outstretched hand. That was answer enough.

"Ah," sighed Xander, his breathe rushing out of him, taking his remaining emotion with it, just leaving him empty and cold, his fingers lacing around the box encasing it in an iron grip.

"She say anything, or are you just here to kill me." Xander shrugged the thumb of his right hand worrying away at the velvet lid of the box.

"You're an idiot you know Xander," snapped Angel.

"Don't you think I don't know that." The retort was sharp and laced with not a little pain, the hurt of the box in his hand bubbling up and finding a welcome outlet. Xander groaned running a hand through his windswept hair before glaring over at Angel. "Don't you think I don't know. Best thing to happen to me and of course I find a way to muck it up."

"You should have realised how vulnerable she is despite the tough girl persona, I thought you knew her better than that? But no, you have to scare her shitless by proposing," growled Angel glaring over at Xander as he paced, his finger jabbing in the younger man's direction to illustrate the point or possibly as a preparation for putting his other eye out.

"So how is she?"

"If you're asking is she crying into her pillows over you? No! I mean this is Faith we're talking about," answered Angel.

"I get that and it's not what I'm asking. It's just that she took off and won't talk to me," complained Xander hating how whiny he sounded.

"She's a mess but she's dealing with it in her own fashion. Which as per usual consists of biting off more than she can chew, rampaging through LA killing vampires, demons and almost getting herself killed in the process, " replied Angel a small smile raising the corners of his mouth as he caught sight of the horrified look on Xander's face.

"But she's okay right," asked Xander his tone more urgent now.

"Yes no thanks to you. So what was this," snarled Angel gesturing at the strewn bottles of liquor and the faint wafting sound of the music of pain.

"Self pity. I'm not proud of it. But hey I felt entitled. I asked my true love to marry me and what does she do. She looks like someone stamped on her favourite puppy before she clears off and to cap it all off she then sends her undead pretty boy to return my gift," snapped Xander anger contorting his face as he stepped towards Angel.

"That what you think this is," replied Angel a secret smug smile playing on his lips.

"Yeah, well you've made your delivery, so job done," replied Xander.

"Who said I was done," replied Angel just before his fist swung and everything went black.

"Now that part I enjoyed," muttered Angel as he slung Xander’s unconscious body over his shoulder.

"Where are we?" asked Xander. His head felt like someone was using it as a piñata and his stomach was at any moment threatening to reintroduce him to the tacos he had eaten earlier. Peering into the darkness just showed him the silhouette of Angel seated in the front seat of what annoyingly looked to be a cool car.

"I see you got the gag out, figured it wouldn't take you long you always we're a motor mouth Xander," said Angel. His voice disembodied with that slightly strange air that you always got from travelling in cars or maybe that was the effect of the bottles of JD he had downed earlier.

"Great, so what's the plan Angelus, you dump my gutted body for whatever pretty girl you're currently stalking. Still at least Faith or Buffy will stake your ass this time."

"Shut up Xander," grumbled Angel his eyes intent on the road ahead.

"Why, you're just going to kill me anyway," snapped Xander desperately trying to keep the monster talking whilst he worked at loosening his bonds.

"You keep this up and I will. I may not like you, in fact I think you're an idiot but someone does although she won't admit it."

"We're talking Faith right, just so I know," queried Xander.

"Yes we're talking about Faith. I may love the girl but she's just like you, she's got rocks for brains," grumbled Angel.

"Hey that's the woman I love," complained Xander as the car pulled of the road onto a gravel drive before drawing to a halt. There was a brief snap of cold air as Angel stepped out, before the rear door was wrenched open and he dragged a protesting Xander out landing heavily on the cold ground.

He could smell the familiar long missed smell of the Pacific. Given his captor Xander figured they were somewhere north of LA. Well the blaze of light against the darkness to the south also helped. The place was swanky and the sound of Christmas merriment could be heard coming from inside the house.

"Ow watch it will you," he complained as Angel dragged him towards the door. Stepping between him and entrance as the door suddenly swung open.

And she was there.

"Hey, you done?" asked Faith her subdued tone totally at odds with the happy sounds spilling through the now open doorway.

"Yeah it's done," replied Angel.

"What's that," asked Faith her tone inquisitive the crunch of gravel letting Xander know she was trying to peer past Angel’s dark bulk.

"Oh this," replied Angel reaching round grabbing Xander's collar and depositing him front of Faith.

"You're present. Happy Christmas Faith." He smiled, stepping past her and kissing the speechless Slayer on her forehead.

"What the hell," snapped Faith.

"You know the rules Faithy," replied Angel cocking an eyebrow towards the archway and the mistletoe that nestled there over Xander's and Faith's heads.

"Now stop being idiots, talk and sort this out." Angel stepped into the house slamming the door behind him leaving Xander alone in the dark with his true love who at the moment didn’t seem particularly pleased to see him.

"So are you going to undo me, or do you want to take delivery as I am now? Cause can you hurry up and decide as I think I'm losing feeling in my extremities," asked Xander looking up at Faith. She looked sad and he felt his heart going cold despite the warming sight of her in her red tee and tight pants.

"Oh I think I have a cure for that," replied Faith as she crouched down beside him her tone saucy as her finger trailed gently across his cheek. Her mouth quested for his, her kiss salty as tears spilled down her cheeks.

"That's good cause I'm freezing and I was hoping you could warm me up," grinned Xander his hand finally free reaching up and tangling in her hair pulling her closer.

She laughed then, that sexy throaty laugh that never failed to get him going, her cheeks dimpling, merriment sparking in her eyes.

"Happy Christmas Faith."

"Happy Christmas babe," she drawled her hip butting into his as she lead him swaying towards the door, "You still got that ring?"

"Yeah," he replied grinning like a madman.

"Wicked."
