I read a beautifullllll story today about a woman who couldn't have children, was devastated, and was losing hope and things like that. A co-worker she hardly knew, aside from the occasional joke in the break room and whatnot, heard of the woman's troubles and approached the woman about donating eggs for her cause. The woman was ecstatic, and in the end, everything worked out, everyone was happy, and the woman was able to have a beautiful baby girl.
I think that I'd like to donate eggs when I get older.
Hell, look at all the good that comes from it:
-help a couple to get a child that's partially theirs (father's half, plus being born from its "mother)
-get $$$ (I see ADs alllll the time on Craigslist)
-have incentive to slim down and get in shape (you have to be in fairly good physical condition, but since I'm not old enough yet, it gives me 1.5-2.5 years to slim down, which I think is more than reasonable)
Plus, I can kind of imagine how it must feel to try for so long to have a child without success. I was a miracle child. My mother was able to bear children biologically, but she's diabetic type I and she was nearly 40 when I was born. I came after several miscarriages, and was cut out a month early because I was killing her. >.<
But, after years of frustration with her, I finally came to see how much she really adores me and appreciates me and whatnot. She's so happy that she was able to raise a child (even if she missed out on some parts due to the divorce). I'd like to help someone have that feeling towards a child a few years down the road.
The negatives?
-psych evaluation (to make sure I'm not CRAY-ZAY)
-lotsa personal questions (bring it)
-several doctor's visits (okay, that's coo'. I'm not paying for it.)
-giving myself hormone shots for a month (studying to be a nurse anyway, might as well start practicing on myself first)
-getting a big needle stuck into my ovary (AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!...I'll live.)
-any kids I may have in the future will need a DNA test before getting married (they'll get over it, I'm trying to do a good deed, dammit)
Good idea? I think so. But I still have plenty of time to decide for sure.
