Machu Picchu - A Deserted Palace

Aug 01, 2009 17:32

This post has been a long time coming, because I have been very busy since my trip to Machu Picchu, working in the clinic and traveling to lots of places. However, Machu Picchu was absolutely amazing and I had such a great time! It really is all it´s cracked up to be, it was gorgeous. Yet again I must preface my photos saying that it was 10 times better in person. :)

My journey to Machu Picchu started the day before I was able to climb up to this beautiful scene. We all (Patrick, Melissa, Andrea, Natalie and I) took a train from Ollantaytambo and arrived in Aguas Caliente the night before our trek up. The entire night I was tossing and turning in the bed in my hostel; I couldn´t sleep at all! I was more excited then a little kid on christmas. When I did doze off I was dreaming about running to the bus stop so that I could be first in line when the busses pulled out, and consequently at 3:20 in the morning I was awake and ready to sit in the freezing cold waiting for the first bus to pull out at 5:30 a.m. I got there at 3:50 and shockingly I wasn´t the first one there. I was 29th though. :) And I made it on the first bus! Which just made me so happy :)

After arriving at the top I ran through the check in / ticket desk and ran to HuanaPicchu. Only 400 people get to go up everyday, so of course I had to make sure I was one of them. And I was! Hiker #143. :)

This was one of my first views of the mountains surrounding Machu Picchu.

The beginning of the trail to Huana Picchu. Everything was so green and jungly! It was absolutely beautiful!!  (Oh and this little snippet is by far the easiest part of the hike!

This is more like it. :) It was a tough hike! But I made it to the top only stopping a few times!

of course one of the places I stopped was when this beauty showed up! It was the biggest rainbow I´ve ever seen! :)

We made it to the top!!

Taking all of Machu Picchu in...

Oh no!!!!

Yeah I was having some fun :)

And of course there were LLAMAS everywhere!

And of course the Classic Machu Picchu shot  -thanks to Natalie who shared this one with me :)

That´s not all of the pics, but it definitely showed the highlights of my amazing trip to Machu Picchu! I had SO much fun!

However, consequently, I could barely make it back to my hostel that night my legs were SO sore! But I made some friends and it turned out to be a perfect trip. :)
