Got to get outside more...

I missed the "sundogs" that twinkled around the sun up here in northern Alabama. What a lesson in raising your head!

Part of my rant Friday was due to my car stalling out twice, and then apparently having its battery drained by having the iPad recharging inside it. (I got the iPad recently, as I realized I needed some business deductions. ) I had to drive the car around for 30 minutes and I was glad it started...got to get another.

I sent 2 boxes of books to a friend's kid in Kuwait. She is reading on a YA level apparently, said snobby me: she wanted Kate Bryan's Private series. Her mom and I got them used on Amazon, but I also went to the library's bookstore & got larry McMurtry, Alice Walker, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel(sigh) "The Winds of War", "Once an Eagle", "Tai Pan" and some other old, thick novels--for $.25. She said they'll take anything, but this kid is 25, just got her GED, and my friend has custody of her two year old. She lived with her dad who let her run wild, she's been divorced, and then the baby daddy dropped her cold. So, she's in the Army now as a paramedic, and gradually growing up from an emotional age of 16...she sounds 18/9 now. In comparison I knew nothing at the same age!

However, I found "The Agony and the Ecstasy" and "the Godfather," and am reading WOW myself. Nothing like old blockbusters, I must say. So many of the books that I get recommended, if that grammar makes sense, aren't as interesting as fan fiction I've read here. I'm looking at you, 40 Shades and Twilight...aside from which, once you find your bulletproof kinks, fanfic almost ruins you.

I also found a couple of Angela Thirkell and Miss Read. You may have picked up that I like stuff far from home...I think I'll try P. G. Wodehouse. Here's a thing: I'll facilitate any young person's wish to read anything. I'll even send some John Gresham.

It is a beautiful fall day. I'm going to watch Law & Order reruns (Sam Waterston!) and knit.
