I am on the point of going to court as the guardian ad litem for a custody/visitation case. The child in question is 15! The mom snatched her from her legal custodian, and kid wants to stay with mom because mom "home schools" her (i.e., lets her watch television all day and grades her tests with all As) and because mean old Dad made her go to school and study and clean her room. Basically.
Mom hasn't hired a lawyer nor paid her half of my fee into the court. This means that we'll be there all day, as Mom will first try to get Me to be her lawyer. The kid fails to understand that, unlike in a juvenile delinquency hearing, I'm not there to defend her. I'm there to listen to the evidence and give the court my recommendation. Working on it yesterday literally made me get a migraine aura. (To be fair, I've felt one coming on for two days.)
However, I am taking my (retail) Coach purse into court with me. It's my first ever expensive bag and I want to kiss it and squeeze it and call it...er, Buffy. Not George.
I foresee a future with, at the very least, Chanel lipstick as designer labels seem to impress the client base hereabouts. Happy Holidays again!
