One of the many expenses and reasons why I work is that public school is just not an option here in Capitol City. The latest report just came in last week, and something like 50 to 60 percent of the schools in Louisiana are still below standards. They've all improved, is the scary thing. As for the socialisation thing... Danae has many out of school activities, and is far too involved in the church life from what you've said, for that to be a real issue. As long as there is varied peer-contact, it doesn't really matter whether that comes in a "traditional" school environment or not.

I'm sorry Mr T. had such a knee-jerk reaction to it. Most stay-at-home mums I know work their asses off... if nothing else, trying to make sure the money they're not making is made up for in savings around the home.

Home schooling is definately not for everyone. In order to have it done well, both children and parents need to be incredibly committed. It's also hard for many people to recognise the difference between teaching a child and doing the work for them. (This is why no teacher I know grades homework... half the time you'd be grading what the parent knows, not what the child knows.) And it's very hard for a parent to watch a child struggle with a concept and not step in and help... or to necessarily know how to help most effectively.

I've seen cases where homeschooling was the best possible option for the child and the family. And I've seen cases where it was possibly the worst decision the parents could have made for their child. Considering it should not have earned you the verbal slap in the face it sounds like you've received today. *hugs*
