Another thing Mike Pence lied about last night that I haven’t yet seen called out: His contention that he would never seek to punish a woman for seeking or having an abortion. ( Read more... )
I am going to try to reply, because I'm one of those liberals, and I am going on Hillary Clinton's record. I look at:
1. Her vote for war in Iraq. 2. What she did to Honduras. 3. The way she then responded to young children fleeing for their lives from that destroyed country--sending them back in the name of "family reunification"! 4. What she did to Libya. 5. Her sabre-rattling against Putin. I'm very afraid that, if she's elected, we'll end up in a war with Russia. We are arguably already in a proxy war. Which brings up- 6. Her support for regime change in Syria. No, I'm not a big fan of Assad, Qaddafi, or Saddam Hussein. The fact remains that, before the U.S. worked to destroy their countries, these men ran secular states in which Jews and Christians had some protections. That's no longer the case in any of these countries today. 7. Finally, her promise to work against my civil rights, as an American, in favor of a foreign country. Yes, I support BDS. It's a peaceful tactic being used in support of an oppressed people, and it is absolutely my civil right as an American. It's a form of political speech, which is protected by the constitution. She has no right to outlaw it, as she's promised to do.
This woman has done enormous harm in the world. Yes, she is better than Trump in some key respects. He (gasp!) is arguably better than she in a couple of others. That is, if he could be proven to be sane. I'm not sure he is, honestly, and I certainly won't vote for him. But I won't vote for her, either. Dr. Jill Stein is now my candidate. And no, it won't be my fault if Trump wins. As I said, I will not vote for this man. But I can't vote for Hillary Clinton, either.
The trouble is we’re not going to get Jill Stein no matter what anyone does. Since we don’t have a parliamentary democracy, we’re not even going to get a coalition government in which Jill Stein is a cabinet minister. Hillary is far from ideal, but she’s what’s available if we don’t want Donald, who is far more likely to get us into a war with China than Hillary is to get us into a war with Russia. And we might as well give up on global warming if we get stuck with any Republican, and that’s the biggest issue of all.
But this isn’t 2000, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the election won’t be close enough to be stolen this time around. I won’t blame you if we get Trump, as long as you don’t blame me for Ronald Reagan because I voted for John Anderson in 1980. Believe me, I learned my lesson!
I totally don't blame you for Ronald Reagan; you didn't vote for him! IMHO, we ought to ditch the electoral college, end "winner take all" in contested states, and set up something closer to a parliamentary system, so that outlying parties (like the libertarians and the greens) could actually have a voice. But I don't see any of that happening in my lifetime.
I am appalled by both the mainstream candidates in this election. A friend of mine thinks Trump was promoted so that Hillary Clinton, a very weak candidate, could win. It's not impossible. Alas, at this point it's also not impossible that Trump could win. But nothing will make me vote for Hillary. She's done great evil in the world and is likely to do worse if she's elected.
