Another thing Mike Pence lied about last night that I haven’t yet seen called out: His contention that he would never seek to punish a woman for seeking or having an abortion. ( Read more... )
Excellent observation. I hope you don't mind, I've shared this. I feel that it's that important. As a woman, I am so shocked that any woman could vote in lockstep with a party with so much disregard for them. Thanks for your insight
And rumor has it that, if Trumps wins, he’ll let Pence run the country while he concentrates on “making America great again.” Or making himself even richer.
I don’t understand progressives who find Hillary so hateful they’d rather have Trump and Pence win. Yeah, Dems and Repubs are identical in every way. Two peas in a pod. [insert sarcasm icon]
The trouble is we’re not going to get Jill Stein no matter what anyone does. Since we don’t have a parliamentary democracy, we’re not even going to get a coalition government in which Jill Stein is a cabinet minister. Hillary is far from ideal, but she’s what’s available if we don’t want Donald, who is far more likely to get us into a war with China than Hillary is to get us into a war with Russia. And we might as well give up on global warming if we get stuck with any Republican, and that’s the biggest issue of all.
But this isn’t 2000, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the election won’t be close enough to be stolen this time around. I won’t blame you if we get Trump, as long as you don’t blame me for Ronald Reagan because I voted for John Anderson in 1980. Believe me, I learned my lesson!
I totally don't blame you for Ronald Reagan; you didn't vote for him! IMHO, we ought to ditch the electoral college, end "winner take all" in contested states, and set up something closer to a parliamentary system, so that outlying parties (like the libertarians and the greens) could actually have a voice. But I don't see any of that happening in my lifetime.
I am appalled by both the mainstream candidates in this election. A friend of mine thinks Trump was promoted so that Hillary Clinton, a very weak candidate, could win. It's not impossible. Alas, at this point it's also not impossible that Trump could win. But nothing will make me vote for Hillary. She's done great evil in the world and is likely to do worse if she's elected.
Leaving a comment on your main post, Terri, which is a good one. I am strongly opposed to theocracy, and am horrified by this. I also hate the way the so-called "pro-life" party is so obviously and clearly anti-woman. Ugh!
