I signed a least this weekend, wholly unexpectedly!
On Friday I picked Jess up from class and we went to look at two apartment complexes to round out our possibilities on places to live. We'd already seen Hampton Oaks, a different unit in the complex she lives in now, and we were pretty much sold on it. It was nice, and the price was good. The idea of having to move her stuff into a building in the same complex seemed really easy, too.
Still, we wanted to be sure, and thorough!
We went to The Laurels first. We almost didn't even go, because I thought the floorplan looked weird (the kitchen looked tiny) -- but ended up being so glad that we went. The gym was huge, the people were nice, the apartment itself was very open and amazing. They're putting new appliances in all of the apartments! We'll have a small porch out front and out back, too, which means we can have some seating, or some plants, or a grill. Or all of the above!
Well, I guess I gave away that we chose The Laurels right now. It's close to everything but still tucked away so it's not right off the main road. After we saw The Laurels we went to a place called The Enclave. I had high hopes for the Enclave! It's brand new and the photos of it looked great! It was a nice looking complex, but the people in the leasing office were nigh on incompetent, and while the apartments were nice they were nothing to write home about. Plus, a $1,000 security deposit? Please.
So, we went with The Laurels. I forgot how tiring signing a lease can be. I know how important it is to listen to everything they tell you, but I just wanted to sign everything without the explanations, eesh. We'll be moving in July! It's exciting and scary all rolled into one.
In other news: There was supposed to be a local write-in at a cafe/bookstore around here today, and I got up early and went to go join in, but I didn't see anyone writing! Maybe I didn't look hard enough? Maybe they were late? Who knows. I know they're an active group, though, so I'll post on their board and see what's what. Guess I'll be trying again next weekend!
The Writer's Alliance of Gainesville (another group) has their next meeting in February. In addition to their speaker, they'll be allowing members to read aloud any work they would like to. I'd love to read something, I just have no idea what I'd read.
Anyway, time to get some school work done. I'd like to have time to watch a movie tonight, and/or get some writing done! I'm at a really exciting part.
