30 Days of Tales meme!
I'm going to do this because thinkoverroses and lady_arieta made it look so fun! I know at least a few of you will enjoy this, right? I am, however, going to cheat and do it on a week-to-week basis instead because my soul belongs to Starbucks and I don't always get a chance to turn on my computer.
So without further delay, I present the first five days of Tales favorites! I made this entry public so my FB friends can see, too.
1. Favorite Tales game:
...Okay so this is actually really tough for me because I love every Tales game I've played! However, due to the 100+ hours in gameplay and months of work in cosplay, I'm have to go with Tales of Vesperia!
Tales of Vesperia followed the traditional Tales formula, which is great for the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" rule. However, they were able to incorporate differences that made it feel fresh without making me think "gee, this isn't anything like a Tales game!" (I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy 13.) There was a different attitude to it, the character relationships were a lot of fun, and I genuinely enjoyed the story. I also spent a lot of time finding alternate costumes.
2. Favorite Main Male Hero
YURRIIIIIIII <3
This is a character that I loved from the very beginning. Yuri is laid back, yet determined. Cool, yet subtly compassionate. Perfectly flawed. There aren't main characters like Yuri in most JRPGs. I guess you could call him my "anime crush." Honestly, I think its partially because he sort of reminds me of how Andrew acts at times. What a great character.
3. Favorite Main Female Hero
First tie of the meme!!! I could pick between these two ladies.
I love Farah and Chloe for similar reasons.
I admire Farah for her determination and her strong will. She's a go-getter and doesn't wait around for anything to come to her. She's quick to help others and is very dependable. Much like the kind of girl I always wished I could be.
Chloe really doesn't have much going for her in the beginning of Legendia, but as she starts to feel a connection with her party members, she lets you see a vulnerable side that really makes her easy to relate to. She doesn't want to be seen as weak, but she doesn't want to be cast aside emotionally for being "too tough." That and the relationship she develops with Senel really touched me for some reason.
4. Favorite Side Male Character
I've gotta give this one to the gynophobe!
Guy's comic value as a character got my attention immediately and he won me over with his tragic story. The beautiful thing about Tales of the Abyss is that they made it easy to empathize with the entire cast, and naturally, Guy is no exception. It may not always be clear what his aim is, but I guess that's part of his charm.
5. Favorite Side Female Character
Okay, here's the most predicable answer I'll give you through the whole meme.
Who didn't know I was going to pick Arche? She's an amazing character! This girl's got it all. She's spunky, she's good in battle, she's the most hilarious character in the game, and she can even fly. Beneath her sassy exterior, she's a compassionate friend and all she really wants is to be accepted for who she is... I can really relate to a character like that. Oh, and did I mention that she was my first Tales cosplay?
I'm also throwing a shout-out to Natalia, the only character that I genuinely did not like who turned around to be my favorite character in the game. Kudos, princess!
