Once more into the light ((of the operating room))

Jun 11, 2007 10:04

Thursday, June 7th at 12:30, I was once more opened up to straighten out my Left Humorous bone. I had both my bone doc and my nerve doc busy under the hood, working on my arm. The operation was expected to take about 4 hours. The final tally on time was 7 hours.

After the operation, my bone doc told me it was a real mess when they opened the arm up. It was analogues to having a knock coming from your car's engine, so you open the hood and discover the engine is on fire. The bone was of course not setting right and a real mess, but the worse problem was the Radial nerve to my left hand was being surrounded and compressed by new bone and scar tissue. This could eventually kill the nerve if not repaired. Not good.

It took them a good amount of time to clean up the mess around the nerve, while the bone doc needed to splice bone from my pelvis along with more screws and plates to make the bone one again.

At this time I have lost movement and use out of my left hand because of all the work around the nerve, although, my nerve doc told me this not unexpected. He said there is a 90% chance of getting use out of my hand again. He said it will take time though. :(

I am also put back on blood thinners until at least August, which means no beer until then :(

I wanted to thank you guys for your help through this LONG ordeal. I don't know what I would have done without your support. I will still need to depend on your help for the coming near future.

Thanks again,
