I, too, can be shallow.

First things first, I finally put a new layout up at terra. It's based off one of thrashmetal's, which was in turn based off the layout at typesites. It's also based of, y'know, Opal, which would be a nice style if everything weren't wrong with it ever. And by everything, I mean the sidebar. I'm probably going to fiddle around with it some, and maybe even see ( Read more... )

I'm weird. I'm totally bitter that they all but disabled S1 support (I can't even center shit anymore), but I'm kind of elitist about layouts. Graphical ability is hardly relevant to actual journal content, but I tend to shy away from people with really ugly layouts when I'm creepishly journal stalking. Because I'm a bitch. :| S2 layouts are just more attractive, but it's so scary and complicated that I just try to emulate the look without actually learning it. My point? Uhhh. I don't have one. New layout is looking nice so far. I love that you can take really obnoxious colors and make them look fantabulous.

Oh god, ffrants. Agreed. Agreed on every fucking point. Half the posts I'm just like WTF ARE YOU SERIOUSLY BITCHING ABOUT THAT? because I read such rarities, that my main complaint about most fandoms is almost always OH GOD WRITE, PLEASE GOD WRITE SOMETHING.

It's a game where a multi-part opera sequence with shifting points of view and costumed high theatrics can be derailed by a giant talking octopus. That's just how it rolls.

I think this is what I'm going to use to explain the game to those unfamiliar. It needs no other explanation.

I was really angry about the switch to S2, because I've been here long enough that I used to customize in S1, but I suppose I dealt. Certainly, S1 is a lot more intuitive, and relies less on CSS chicanery because there are like five people in the world who understand custom layers.

Obnoxious colors are totally just stolen from Cecil's FFIVa fieldsprite.

I do like how they had to put a temporary ban on raperants. That sounds like the FFR I know and, well, don't exactly love.

I've been using the same S1 template for about five years now. I just swap bits around, add sidebars occasionally, change up the colors and shift it all over the place, but imagine my surprise when I found it just wouldn't center anymore last time I tried to make a layout. Why take that out? Taking fuctionality out of a dead system seems like extra effort. Just leave it be and let it collect dust, you know? I think I'm just going to have to learn S2, and I'm not happy about having to figure out all new CSS tricks to override.

I think you've actually told me that about before, but it doesn't make it any less awesome. And just proves how flamboyant Cecil is.

I wish they would do a permaban on typo rants. I don't even care how boring they are, it's the Schoolhouse Rock ones that piss me off. Dude, the crowd you are pandering to with that there/they're/their spelling lesson are a bunch of writing elitists to begin with. We don't need you to give us grammar lessons. Go take it up with the fic author in question and stfu.

Yeah, why would they disable S1 functions slowly over time. Especially functions like centering. That doesn't even make sense. Those wacky Russians.

Well, yes, it does little to make Cecil seem subtle.

Very much so. It's not as though screwing up homonyms once means that the writer doesn't know the difference. Also, it's not easy to get beta readers. Easily corrected typos are the most minor of sins.

And hahah, the things I would actually rant about there I won't, because I know the major perpetrators are frequent posters there. Ooooops.

That's how I feel about Locke too. I've probably whined about this before, but it bugs me when people turn him into a rainbow parade of fashion. I know Amano jazzes him up, but he does that to everyone, and it's hard to be especially effective at infiltration and thievery when you are a Vegas billboard of bright ass colors. I know I'm pretty alone in this though, so I should stfu.

Even if they fuck up again and again, really, it'd be more a benefit to them them instead of passive aggressively whining about it to a group of people who probably know the difference anyway. It's annoying, yes, but not a mistake worthy of informing thousands of people. Really not that noteworthy in terms of fic fuck ups.

oh god tell me, tell me please. I AM DYING TO KNOW. PM IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SAY IT PUBLICLY. PLZ PLZ.

Well, I can see Cecil being ridiculously bright as going with shining beacon of holy light thing, but I always pictured him along the lines of his original status portrait which has gotten girlier with every remake. With Locke, yeah, I agree, his clothing is prob. a lot more subdued. It doesn't bother me in fanart as much, esp. when it's a clear homage to Amano, buuut in fic? No.

Also he doesn't wear lipstick.

Oh, okay, well, so sometimes I look for Marvel fic. And most of it happens to be Captain America/Iron Man, because...that's the only pairing that exists, apparently. Which is okay, except it's all gdamn hurt/comfort which is a trope I just despise. But to each their own, right? The problem is that they like including characters that aren't Captain America or Iron Man and they don't feel the need to match up with canon characterization. I commented on a concrit meme saying such to one of the offenders, and the response was "Oh, everyone just writes AU that guy." Uh-huh. Whyyyy would you do that.
