Last summer I was home sick on a weekday afternoon and saw two kids go running through my backyard. I also heard gunshots and decided not to investigate. I didn't think much of it because neighborhood gossip hadn't brought forth any additional information. Later that year while working in the yard, I noticed a hole in the siding outside of the kitchen and realized that gunshot was what the kids had been running from. Flash forward to this weekend and my wallpaper removal project. I moved the stove and noticed a hole in the cabinet and a ding on the side panel of the stove. Closer investigation provided the bullet entry point into the cabinet where I store baking pans and mixing bowls. It now made sense why I had been finding particleboard pieces inside of everything in that cabinet. I had been thinking that the cats had discovered how to open cabinets and were scratching the inside of them, although why I thought that made sense, I have no idea. While sweeping up the fallen wallpaper, I also came across the bullet, tiny but surprisingly heavy. If my oven had been gas would it have made a difference or would the outer shell of the appliance still stopped the bullet? Regardless, I now have some patching to do to the hole in my house/cabinet. The reason for the wallpaper scraping you ask? I'm finally getting the backsplash and floor replaced in my kitchen and also getting the cabinets professionally cleaned, after which I will switch out the hardware like I planned to do during the Christmas break. All of that coupled with the spring cleaning yard work, garage cleaning, and dead tree removal are all in preparation of my first bbq in years. So excited to celebrate all of the May birthdays and drink tons of sangria!
