Dancin' in the rain to BB King & Bobby "Blue" Bland!

Last night was phenomenal!

It started out a little shaky with my boyfriend not sitting next to me because I was smoking and he was in his words "trying to be considerate of his sister" because she is pregnant. So he sat next to her and talked to her all through Bobby "Blue" Bland and only spoke to me to ask me for the flask out of my purse and glare at me whenever I lit a cigarette. I decided that if I stayed in that situation the evening would end up very tense, so I got up and found a perch on one of the decks, dead center with the stage. Laura turned around at one point and saw me and gave me a smarmy smile. My feelings for her will never change.

Okay, so screw all that noise!

I hadn't seen Bobby since my Uncle James took me to see him and BB King when I was 17. That man can still growl like nobody's business. At one point he had me in tears with a song about lost love, but for the most part, I stood there and rocked back and forth feeling every bit of emotion in his voice. The feelings I had while he was singing, took me back to younger days of living with my Aunt & Uncle having just moved to Kansas City and never having heard the blues before. The joy of hearing a song sung so full of emotion and loss, that you want to sing along and cry, all at the same time. I shook my ass and tapped my toes and felt like I was 17 all over again.

During the intermission I went back over to the seats and clued Bekah in to where I was. She opted for joining me, since she was also smoking and we headed back over to my perch. We met a woman named Sharon from San Antonio who had the same idea as us. Her husband and son were in seats, but she too needed the freedom to shake her ass. The three of us danced and frolicked all through BB's set. John came and joined us about halfway through the set and the block party madness began.

Folks I didn't know kept swinging by and dancing with me. I was being swung back and forth from person to person, when all of a sudden some man swoops down and plants a kiss on my cheek. I turned around and lo and behold, it was Sonny, LeeAnn's bass player. I hadn't seen him in ages, so I grabbed a huge hug and another kiss from him before he headed back to his sweetie and his seats. Folks I hadn't seen in ages kept passing by and dancing me around. All of this was occurring while a crazy lightning show was taking place overhead. BB asked if we were tired and the whole crowd resounded "NO". He asked if we were ready to go and again "NO" was the consensus. We all sang along to When Love Comes to Town and rejoiced. And then the droplets began. I honestly believe that the dancing got more frenzied and the music became more enthralling. Folks started jumping out of their seats and rushing toward the exit, but my little block party kept right on partying. we'd recruited a couple more folks and we all just danced around in the rain like fools until the very end.

BB didn't have to even come on stage. I know a lot of acts who wouldn't have with the amount of lightning that was flying around, but he did and he played for about the same amount of time as he did at Bass last fall, but this was so much better because of the rain and the dancing. We formed a human chain and made our way back to the car and then back to Johns house to listen to more blues and raid his fridge. Bekah and I danced around more and laughed like little children recounting the nights events.

I love dancing like I don't have a care in the world and I love meeting folks at shows who have the same exhuberance that I do for the music. It was a truly beautiful evening with some wonderful folks!

I got up early to drive Bekah home since she had to be at work at 8 and so did John. I'm off to go bike Decker and then head to the Goodwill to get a couple more hours in.

What a beautiful night and gorgeous morning!

Additonal note: Can you believe that a 75 and 79 yr. old are still rocking the house and getting folks to shake their asses all night? It makes my heart full of love and happiness. My mommy and Doug were right there next to me all night grooving along with me as well. And the sunset through the clouds was rosy and amazing! Love was everywhere!

One more thing: The folks in our little block/dance party kept offering to buy me drinks and I would tell them thanks but no. This happened quite a few times and John kept mouthing "whiskey" every time one of them would ask. I'm just not comfortable with folks that I don't know buying me drinks. What's up with that?
