Get thee behind me, 2008. It wasn't even that bad for me, comparatively, but the suck was definitely there.
I'm staying home tonight, alone on New Year's Eve for the first time in 20 years. Last time this occured, I was back in Aurora, functionally friendless, glad to have the house to myself. There was a short flight of carpeted stairs that linked the living room to the kitchen, and on my way down the steps after probably going into my room for something, my foot didn't quite catch the top step, and I slipped, bumping down all five steps on my ass. It was funny enough to make me laugh, but then pretty quickly it hurt a lot; my tailbone had taken at least three strikes. And just in case you were wondering, I wasn't drunk. At that age I maybe took a sip from my mom's Gallo blush chablis now and again, and that was it; I hated the taste of alcohol until I was at least 19, and I finally drank my first really good beer.
I pulled my back earlier today, hoisting my backpack with a bag of cat food AND a bag of cat litter AND a large cauliflower AND several books & DVDs; hope it turns out OK. Shawna pulled her back a couple of weeks ago and was in sheer hell. My ankle and my knees are taking turns being painful and unhappy; I really don't need any more problems.
But hey, tonight I set up a wireless network and am currently using it on my "new" laptop, which is indeed much faster and has much more disk space, though it's still pathetic enough that I got it for free. I'm not complaining; I was gonna spend $400 on a machine of the exact same specs. However, those computers probably didn't have their keyboard characters drawn on with Sharpie, which is currently staining my fingertips. That's gonna need to change.
Still: relatively contented. I have a bunch of movies and tomorrow off. Sure I'm going to write my brains out tomorrow, and i should really get started tonight, but I'd much rather actually just chill and relax and do some free weights and watch PRIMER. It's so early still. Maybe I'll change my mind later and go round to the pub, but honestly, I don't need to drink any more right now. :) (But goddammit, where's the fucking SCIFI channel?? I need my Twilight Zone marathon to be in full effect!!!)
Happy tomorrows to you all.
