November has come

(A brilliant Gorillaz song that everyone should hear today if they can.)

A new month. I feel a sense of relief. A story is almost done. A new story is slowly taking shape (damn, I wish I had a writing coach, like a personal trainer, who could help me map out everything and keep track of it all... why can't I write simple, memoir-ish stories about stuff that happened to me in a place I've lived in? Noooo, I have to have these sprawling, exotic-locale wankfests with a bunch of intricately detailed characters from backgrounds that I know nothing about).

My aim is to get started tonight, and just write for a long time and see what I come up with. This weekend will be devoted to writing exercises like character maps, setting lists (so I can figure out what research will need to be done), composing and posting research-source ads on Craigslist UK (is there such a thing?) and trying desperately to find my notes from Spring 2003.

Anybody know someone who is an Armenian Brit? Or who has spent time in the Priory? Or has done sound production for documentary films? Or who worked for WGBH-Boston? Or who knows what it's like backstage at the Paramount Theater in NYC? Or the Fillmore East? Or the Fillmore West?

Cripes, the amount of research I have to do for this book is absolutely staggering. Reading ten books on 19th century Paris was nothing compared to this. I think I need a file cabinet.

status report, whinge, yay, writing
