Been back for about a day now, haven't had time to do much posting, so there's a backlog...
But one super-cool thing we bought at the International Marketplace of all places in Waikiki, were some really cool iPod protectors.
I'm always reluctant to put a protector or any sort of case on my iPod because most just bulk it up immensely so it doesn't fit in a dock, and most of them don't look very cool. I basically like my iPod naked.
But... these were too cool. Remmeber those sort of puffy, plastic stickers we used to stick on things when we were kids? Well, someone came up with the brilliant idea of making stickers in the size and shape of the front and back of an iPod, and sticking those straight on to the iPod as a protector.
Because they are basically vinyl, they serve another purpose too... the iPod will actually stick to a mirror or window or any smooth surface... quite well, without the worry of falling.
Pete actually borrowed one of my iPods to watch some TV shows on the plane on the way back, and he stuck it to the plane's TV screen in his seat, for better viewing. It worked perfectly.
To demonstrate visually what I mean, here are some photos of the front and back.
The one on the left is my 160Gb Classic iPod with a Tokyo Subway Map theme (which I thought was really cool, considering we spend so much time in Japan, and it IS actually a replica of the subway map itself).
The one on the right is my 80Gb Classic iPod (one generation before the other one) with a Sushi motif.
I thought I'd like the subway map motif better, but the sushi one is cool, because the select button in the middle is decorated with a single piece of sushi, and it looks cool.
I also got the Tokyo subway map in black background, and one in plain, bright yellow, as backups for when I get tired of the stickers that are on there. They said that if you are careful with the stickers, and stick them back on the original backings that they came on, you can actually take them off and re-use them a couple times with no problems.
They also told us that their biggest market is Japanese tourists, which doesn't surprise me, as these are cooler than any iPod decorations or cases I saw in Japan... and Japan usually has THE coolest stuff like this of anyone in the world.
What a neat, simple idea!
In case anyone is interested, you can find a link to their website
here and there are literally hundreds of designs for all the iPods ever made. Very cool!
