Computer Shift Complete

Well, last night I hooked the 20Gb drives from the old computer into the newer computer and transferred all the files over.

I also transferred everything off that computer to my newer, faster computer.

Tonight, I did general cleanup on the older computer and set it up down at my mother-in-law's.

In about 50 years when I get around to it, I'll organise all the files I haphazardly dumped onto this newer computer for myself. I might actually be able to update my iPod with new tunes from around here somewhere in 800 years once I get it all organised again! Argh.

But hey, it's a much faster computer, it's dual core or something. I don't know, I don't keep track of all the hardware changes these days. I'm just thankful it is pre-Vista. Whew!

It only has a 280Gb HDD in it, though, less than the one I just gave mom-in-law. I'm going to need another 500-odd to get by. Thinking about going 750Gb just for the hell of it though.

I have no computer out in the loungeroom now, until Pete gets his crap off the old laptop. At that point, I'll set that one up to remote desktop into this one. It's an old, crappy Sony laptop, but a really good size for traveling, and all I'll need if I travel, but it's got a 60Gb HDD and not that much processing power... so for using in front of the TV, I'll source this one and on the road, it won't matter.

At least I feel like I accomplished something.

And the most amusing part? I walked my mother-in-law through the Podcast area of iTunes Music Store this evening. When I went back down to show her the Ella Fitzgerald music I'd transferred onto her PC, she was listening to a medical talk Podcast hosted by her boss. She was amused.

The woman is 75 years old, and can find her way around a computer without very much trouble. I am very amazed by that! Go, mom-in-law!
