I finally got around to doing some background painting in my art journal. It's ok I guess but not the look I was going for. I used the cheapie craft acrylics and I used them straight from the bottle and they are way too thick. I was going for a more sheer, translucent look and I certainly didn't get that! Apparently I should have either dry brushed them on or watered them down. Who knew?!? So, back to the drawing board I guess.
This trial and error business is the part where I get frustrated and discouraged. I know it's part of the learning curve but it seems like such a huge waste of time. I'm crunched for time as it is and so to spend a bunch of time on painting and get junk ticks me off.
So, I guess I've discovered something important about myself. I always thought I was a fairly patient person but apparently I'm not all that patient which I will need to be aware of in future.
Off to Michaels later today to pick up a couple of colours of the "real" acrylics to give them a try before I invest in a whole swank of them. I usually hate M's as they are sooooo expensive most of the time. But the new one near me is pretty good - it's quite large and has a great selection of most things. I'll do a preliminary purchase of a couple of tubes there; if they work out better, then I'll look around for them somewhere cheaper. Hopefully the results will be better and I'll get a little boost of confidence. Right now I'm feeling kind of discouraged.
Oh, Well......back to the drawing board.....if I can find it on the work desk .....which is a total mess.....So what else is new? LOL
